So....they dump Al Skinner who's had a world of success there, and hire Steve Lavin. Did they dump Skinner for what...because they got into a tough conference? Cuz hiring Mr Lavin is shaky at best! Everbody moans about Calipari......Lavins' the dipstick who keeps getting CAUGHT with infractions!!

So you ACC buffs clear this up for me,huh?

I beg your pardon, and Al Skinners'! I'm guilty of reading 2 stories at once.

Apparently, I was thinking about Boston College, where Skinner was the coach. He interviewed at St johns but was rejected because he wouldnt budge from bringing his coaches with him. Lavin slides in....watch out

Rumor has it Jamie Dixon (Pitt coach) will take the Oregon job. Not happy that Pitt is moving to the Big 10. Not sure of the validity but the source is usually spot on when it comes to Pitt Athletics.

There were NO NCAA infractions during the time period of Steve at UCLA. They were during the Jim Harrick period!

You are correct! I owe Mr Lavin an apology also. I don't know where my mind has been lately....carry on.

They're saying this is a done deal?

Huge loss for Pitt & the Big East (or Big Ten, if they end up there, which is a real possibility.)

dixon looks pretty close to a done deal, although you never know with a last minute raise etc..... The big 10 is not as sure although everyone but men's bb is for it. Looks like there may be a direct corelation.

I wonder if his contract covers an unlimited supply of Dapper Dan during his tenure.

It's a huge loss for the Big East in football if Pitt does go to the Big Ten. One good thing about it is it will force Penn State to play the Panthers in football.

I still think Missouri makes a lot more sense for the Big Ten.

Completely uninformed thread starter notwithstanding, as a lifelong St. John's fan, I'm psyched about this hire. Is he Pitino or Donovan - the original targets of AD Chris Monasch's search? No, but Lavin absolutely knows how to recruit, and is reported to be bringing in a veritable dream team of assistants to his staff. Any coach with a modicum of credibility could have taken this team to the NCAA tournament this year. With nine seniors and new management, there is absolutely zero reason why St. John's can't make the tournament in 2011.

Dixon crazy to take the oregon job. he's built a better program at pitt. he's going west for the $$$. not always a good reason.

Hasn't Iowa State been part of the whole Big 8/Big 12/SWAC crew a lot longer than Missouri? Seems like Missouri-Illinois and Missouri-Iowa would be a lot better annual meeting than anything Iowa State brings to the table.

Dixon got a few more years and some more $$$. He seems happy here so I was surprised by the rumor. He got the extra years and cash so it was worth feigning interest. Good for him, he is a good coach and a nice guy.

I hate to tell the Big 10 but they already have a network and no one in the NY-NJ market watches Rutgers anyway.

Sorry Phil...
