??? Venue for June 17 ???
Not too much to get excited about . . . so . . . ThistleDown, Lone Star Park??? Tracks we seldom play and both have several ungraded stakes races. I'm leaning towards Lone Star in Grand Praries Texas, just west of Dallas.
My wife and I have been to Lone Star a number of times but its been awhile. I've never left with more cash then I started with and with luck just enough to pay the valet parker.

The past two mornings I have been enjoying the coverage from Royal Ascot, fancy dress, royal carriages and all. I found myself thinking that it was a real pity that we could never use such a race venue for one of our contests for a whole variety of reasons, i.e. they only have 7 races on their card; some of the fields have as many as 24 or more entrants; getting pp's could be a real challenge for some of us, and even if we had pp's, the lack of familiarity with many of the horses, jockeys and trainers would make for a guessing game; and finally, the elephant in the room, the time zone differences mean that one needs to arise very early to get scratches and enter picks before first post. The further West one lives, the greater the problem becomes.
I'm not advocating that we play Royal Ascot, only bemoaning the fact that we can't. The racing has been very interesting and the scenery magnificent. To more seriously respond to your question Don, if you would like to designate Lone Star, I'm game for it, not having looked at any LS races since the BC was held there. |

Yes JB, Royal Ascot is very special from start to finish. We can't get it here until Saturday but it surely is a show. Patty and I attended the Breeders Cup the year it was at Lone Star. They spiffed it up for the big day, basically being a very nice second tier track.
We haven't been back for three years at least. The early years after LSP opened Steve Asmussen was racing a lot of his horses there and of course winning a lot of races. Not sure if he started there but LSP opened in 1997.
