Friday proved to be a very good day and had potential to be monsterous.. The near miss at a grand P4 at AQU will stick in our head for a while as River Mountain Rd's head loss to Sweetiewheatie in the 7th kept many from a lucrative payday.
Wins from Stopbluffing (6th, 9-2), Pavo (8th, 16-1) and Light Classic (9th, 9-1), first, fourth and longshot alert selections respectively, surrounded the tough beat. A win by Tony Dutrow's River Mountain Rd would likely have returned $5,000. Sweetiewheatie's late-running heroics, which earned Eddie Martin his 3,000th career victory, combined with the 6th, 8th and 9th race results for a $14,000 score. Pavo's $35 win price keyed a nice triple box though in the 8th, and Light Classic's tri starting $20 tote netted a $199.00 nightcap wallet-stuffer.
