![]() September 16th - 6:40am - Cherie starts yelling already
![]() September 16th - 6:45am - Appoint works and abdomin starts to hurt, not real bad, go get bottle of water as I figured it was because I hadn't eaten a normal diet September 16th - 8:30am - Time to get Tom to airport, abdomin progressly getting worse but figuring not a real big fan of going to KY hospital September 16th - 9:15am - Get to airport, thank Chuck for everything (he was awesome, as usual) and get to security September 16th - 9:20am - Get to Security and it is only one station, and they mess with THREE Chinese in front of me because they were traveling for China, all were randomly selected for increased security check, meanwhile I walked right through September 16th - 9:45am - call parents again and tell them that we might have to go back to hospital because same pain is there September 16th - 10:10am - board plane, and know it is a bad idea September 16th - 10:15am - take off, moving forward and backward in smallest plane seat ever, plane is hot as can be. THANK GOD it was only a 45 minute flight. Get up multiple times throughout the flight to go to bathroom to cool face down, sweating profusely. Just about to land and I get up to grab my bag (only had one) so I could put all my stuff in there, except my cell phone and IPOD because I figured I would have the same wait as I did before, guy next to me goes "I think she wants you to sit" and I go "Listen, I am getting up to get my bag because obviously I don't feel good, or haven't you noticed my pacing and back and forth rocking, my abdomin is killing me. September 16th 10:25am - Land, 2nd we taxi I get up and make way to front. Tell girl who says "I know, you don't have to explain, you seem like you are in a lot of pain", they open the door and because of small plane, you had to actually walk to your gate, really hilarious, they won't come and 'clear' the walking gate so she askes the pilot to take me, he says sure. TSA girl agent with biggest nose ever goes "YOU CAN'T BE HERE" and pilot goes "He has a medical emergency, leave him alone" High tail to Dad who is waiting for me, talking to TSA agent who he told that I had a medical emergency, and they let him wait (which they don't do at any airport). September 16th 10:30am - Get into car and let it all out, couldn't handle the pain anymore. Mom calls emergency room and says I am on the way Timing gets fuzzy from here on out but I think I remember how it went..... Get into emergency room and they try and make me sit down, I sit for 2 seconds and the pain is excruciating, had to get up and pace, get vitals checked and everything through the roof. Get put into room 4 and all things start getting taken off me, still in ton of pain. Shirt/pants/shoes, all in bag. Get moved to room 1 and blood drawn and pain meds administrated, start to relax but still in lot of pain. Really good ER doctor comes and talks to parents. My billy rubin level was a 10, where normal is a 1, and I had a high white cell blood count and liver levels were higher then normal. ER Doctor thinks it could be gall stones. Orders cat scan and ultrasound, more pain meds prescribated. Bears game is put on TV so able to focus on something. Go for catscan, results come back negative as they find nothing. go back to room 1. Go to ultrasound and guy doing it says he sees gallstones. I am relieved, figured that was easily treatable. More pain meds extending. ER gets extremely busy including guy next to us yelling at nurse and eventually leaving. Dad asked me for my cell phone and I say "It should be in my shorts" and we start looking for it. No shorts. Dad asks nurses and start search. I ask for my IPOD, can't find that either. Get admited to actual hospital for observation and pain comes back. Have own room. From Sunday 6am to Wednesday 8pm, get zero sleep, only pain med enduced sleep, and the longest that was was 1.5 hours. Monday was alot of waiting, I had an ERCP scheduled for 4:15pm, which is where they stick a camera down your throat and try to see the gall bladder/pancreas/liver and see what is going on in bile ducts. Feel nothing, doctor says no stones are found and everything looked good, start to feel better. Surgeon still wants to pull gall bladder because of constant pain. Surgery scheduled 7:15am, getting taken down there at 6:15am. Back up in room by 7pm, pain meds enduced. Have new roomate, 57 year old guy that looked like he was 85, deaf and looked like he hated life. Farting and snoring like crazy. In and out just sitting there and hit buzzer for more meds at 11:15pm (nurse shift change). No response for 25 minutes, I get out of bed and walk over with IV and pump, hunched over, see a bunch of people and say "Can I please get a nurse to administer some pain meds please, I can't handle this right now" They put me in wheel chair and get me back to room. Get back to room and nurse comes back and says, I am going to double your dose, I can see your pain. Gives me 1mg of Diluated(?). 1am Tuesday I have to call her and in extreme pain, hunched over and essentially whimpering, please. She administers. Talk to her real quick and turns a corner on the niceness level, was bitch to start, not after 2nd pain shot. Call her back at 2am, insane pain. She says that, "I am going to give you 1.5mg but I can't give you anymore until 6am, are you ok with this, I say "ANYTHING". She administered and I am out, wake up at 5:30am and ask for me, she says sure, gets me .5mg and says "You will also get a pepcid and valium presurgery". Get both of those at 6am, feel GREAT ![]() get lead to surgery, surgeon is late, I get on table and doctor comes in and say "Hi Tom, remember me," I say yes and then I pass out ![]() Next I know I wake up in recovery and start freaking out because I see the clock and it took what I thought was an hour longer then it should. Nurse asks me if in any pain and I say yes and can I see my parents? she says No. I ask her "What happened" and she responds, just relax and chill out, doctor informed your parents. 1.5 hours in recovery room, finally get back to room and see parents, upset because they wouldn't tell me anything, I ask my parents and they tell me that my gall bladder was 'dead' and was ganggreenous" or something to that effect. They don't tell me anything else and say 'get some sleep'. I get about two hours because of pain meds. I don't have any incisions, just two puncture hole above my belly button and to the left, I have a drain on my side (because of the ganggreen stuff and they don't want infection in system) and they took my gall bladder out via my belly button. Doctor told my parents that it was worse gall bladder he has ever seen and he was real lucky to be able to get out without puncturing it, and then having to do incision. Wake up at about 3pm and feel like million dollars, feel great, finally get clear liquid diet (I didn't eat or drink anything from Sunday at 9am). Lots of phone calls and friends, was unbelievable level of support and almost overwhelming..Now the fun begins. for them to remove the gall bladder they have to fill your torso with air, at about Midnight I wake up with an unbelievable amount of discomfort, almost worse then the pain pre surgery. Nurse comes in and says "You have to get up and walk around, start making yourself cough, breath into this tube 10 times an hour to prevent ammonia and hopefully you will start passing gas also" None of this is happening. She takes a pillow and pressing against my abdomin and I start to cough, first cough is alot harder then the 2nd/3rd. Get up and take IV Stand and pump and do 'laps' started with 1 and got up to doing 3. Still no major sleep. I get two more things of pain meds and at about 7am I got a new nurse. Nurse care went from unbelievably great to absolutely horrible. I ask this nurse for 5 minutes, food comes in and I deny it because it is what caused the discomfort for the last 6 hours. She says 3pm. I go to her, You have full control to me, you tell me what to do and I will do it, I want out of here, I haven't had any sleep at all. She says, why don't you try this sherbert and apple juice, and then let it go down. I do it, feel nothing change, she says, "Why not go for a couple laps and make yourself cough." So long story short, at about 3pm I turned ornery as hell as I wanted out and I felt fine, there was one nurse there for 10 people, and 8 of them were getting blood transfusions, which take time and focus. I learned how to change my dressage, and finally got released at 8:30pm. I got home, came on DT for a couple minutes, and then passed out and finally got some decent sleep. Thank you all again for everything, it means so much. Today I feel ok, first day of real food and I think my body is adjusting right now becuase I feel kinda weird. Hoping tomorrow I feel normal. Next doctor appointment is Tuesday. ![]() |

![]() I found an infected gall bladder picture for you.
Steve made it small, so I will try posting again. Attachment 994 I realize you probably wanted the hospital to keep this organ for you... A badge of honor type thing. Watch that grease intake fella. Best wishes, -Porgan Last edited by pgardn : 05-09-2009 at 09:45 AM. |

![]() I just wanted to update everyone. I feel great today, I am walking fluidly, although not for very long, everything else is good, not alot of pressure or pain. I actually haven't taken a pain pill in the last 24 hours.
Thank you to everyone once again, it is amazing to feel the support of all. I am actually trying to figure out a way to protect myself and go down to Wrigley tomorrow if they Cubs don't clinch tonight. I have good seats for tomorrow that we got at face value and I don't see how I can miss an opportunity to see them clinch. I figure if I protect this one area, wear a sweatshirt, and sit between my friends, I'll be all good. ![]() |
