Since Soumillon got a suspension at Meydan, Cruz got Dettori to ride Beauty Flash in the Derby...

Race card up in the next day or two...

G/l to Redrag and Best Friend in R5 tomoorrow at HV (even though it looks like Blue Sky wins).

Barrier trials... Hawthorne withdrawn, Bullish King 4th in batch 2...

No press for Redragtoabull?

RACE FIVE, RATED 105-80 (C1), 1,800 METRES
Dumbarton Rock did a steady 1,200m gallop on Monday and has done plenty of pace work. He looks an absolute treat. Really Happy's last two steady 800m gallops confirmed he is back to his old self. Best Friend is slowly coming back to form and he showed it when lengthening nicely five days ago over 800m. Fat Choy Ichiban hit the line strongly at the end of his 1,200m workout last Thursday - going better than his workmates - and also had a slick 800m blow-out with speedy Our Lucky Baby on Monday. Ambitious General is a star worker. He trialled superbly over this course on February 20 and did a sparkling gate jump out 13 days ago with Native Kid (400m in 21.7).

Powerful international challenge for APQEII and Champions Mile
10 March 2010

Hong Kong's stars will come under fierce pressure from overseas in the two international races on April 25 as the record number of entries for both the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup and the Champions Mile includes outstanding G1 performers from every continent.

HKJC Executive Director of Racing William A Nader, expressing his delight at the depth of the possible invasion force, commented that: "This response from horsemen from around the world reflects the continuing and developing strength of racing in Asia as well as the APQEII's status as one of the world's major 2000m races; and the huge number of entries for the Champions Mile is a clear indication both of the growing popularity of the Asian Mile Challenge and of the co-operation between its member jurisdictions, Australia, Dubai, Japan and Hong Kong".

]Leading the contenders for the APQEII is last year's winner Presvis, trained in England by Italian Luca Cumani, who bids to become the first APQEII winner since Japan's Eishin Preston in 2002-3 to defend his title successfully. But he meets glittering opposition which will include 2008 Prix du Jockey Club winner Vision D'Etat, who beat him into third place when taking the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup last December; former Brazilian star Gloria de Campeao who beat him - many thought fortunately - when they met in last year's Singapore Airlines International Cup, and Gio Ponti, the best turf horse in America, who left Gloria de Campeao far behind when winning the Arlington Million in August.

Other major talents in the APQEII field are Red Desire, recent winner of Round 3 of the Al Maktoum Challenge in Dubai, who looks set to inherit from the recently retired Vodka the title of Japan's best mare; the UAE's Alexandros, who will be looking for revenge on Presvis for his defeat in the Jebel Hatta at Meydan on Dubai's Super Thursday; New Zealand's two best middle distance horses, Red Ruler and Vosne Romanee, and the usual powerful contingent from South Africa, this time headed by Herman Brown's Bankable and Musir
who is rated very highly indeed by Mike de Kock who won the APQEII in 2008 with Archipenko.

Arrayed against them, however, will be a home team led by Collection, who showed his star is still very much on the rise when impressive winner last time of the Citibank Hong Kong Gold Cup, and the veteran but still formidable Viva Pataca, as well as those who emerge with glory from this weekend's Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby.

A serious battle is in prospect and whoever comes out on top will at once take high position in the list of the world's best at the classic 2000m distance.

The Champions Mile is hardly less competitive with triple Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Mile victor Good Ba Ba, winner in 2008, confronted by 2009 Champions Mile victor Sight Winner and 2007's Able One, but with challengers coming from five continents. These include: from Australia Sydney stars Rangirangdoo, Daneleigh and last year's third Dao Dao; from Bahrain Lahaleeb, winner for Mick Channon of last year's EP Taylor Stakes at Woodbine; from Great Britain, recent Dubai winner Cat Junior; from Japan, Laurel Guerreiro; from the UAE Rio de la Plata and Laa Rayb; from South Africa Our Giant and Imbongi, and from the USA Ferneley and Loup Breton.

The history of the race suggests the invaders will have their work cut out however, and it is an added attraction that the Hong Kong based champions of each of the last three years will be in opposition yet again.

Retired... 8 year old Excellent Boy...

http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/h...&Option=1#htop

Danaaba, Marengo, Flying Sprinter, all retired too.

* * *

R5... Redragtoabull was 8th, Best Friend 9th.

Sacred Kingdom has his own thread.

http://www.derbytrail.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35045

Hope he keeps on improving.

* * *

Gryder released, his last race meet is tomorrow. (I actually think he could pull off an upset with Silver Blaze in R9 or Mi Reilli in R10 but what do I know?)

* * *

The kids have departed for Dubai. Good luck, Hong Kong raiders!

* * *

Healthy Contender, one of 4 girls in HK, got a win last week!

In the entries for the Cornflower H. at Sha Tin on Wednesdasy (yeah Sha Tin and not HV)... Syllabus!

* * *

Saturday barrier trials...

http://www.hkjc.com/english/press/btrs.asp

* * *

Retired... Wadedelight, Keen Soul, Jade Dancer, Lucky Money, Feel So Good, Excellent Boy, Walkonthewildside, Danesis and Medic Power ( I remember when he won 6 in a row... he was some horse back then. He exits with a 116).

* * *

G/l Kimberley in R2. (Won't win... that would be Divine Kid or I think so anyway)

PH alert... Guan Dao in R4! (Praising to win here).

Nice little field for the Premier Plate (Jackpot Delight, Best Friend, Jamesina who I think could win this and Bullish Cash). Nice race to watch and enjoy.

My lock of the day... Dynamic Blitz in R8. (Nightlign, Unique Jewellery and Our Lucky Baby underneath). Good luck to Watch What Happens if he draws in though.

Ed just incase you're around do you rmemeber Heartline? He's in this one and check out who he beat home his first out. Shocked!

http://www.hkjc.com/english/pp_formsheet/fse_J330.pdf

Worth a play... Finn McColl in R10. (Use with Johnson and Mi Rielli)

Good luck everyone and come home safe, kids.

Hope Packing Winner is okay. Didn't he once fracture his pelvis?

Bullish Cash (R7)
Brave Heart / Silver Sun (6)
Luckyme and Upside of Anger (either order, R4)

Let's see if Chadwick can get a win outta Blink Again (R1). Bet he does it at huge odds!

I think maaaaybe Brave Kid beats the legends here.....

He and Beauty Flash are the future superstahs so I'd go with one or the other here but cheers to the old guard.

Able One floors bigger names at Sha Tin

By james reed 1:45PM 4 APR 2010 Report: Hong Kong, Sunday

Sha Tin: The Chairman's Trophy (HK Group 2) 1m, turf, 3yo+

ABLE ONE (John Moore/Darren Beadman) regained the sort of form that once crowned him a Group 1 winner in the past by snaring a very competitive renewal of the Chairman's Trophy at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Since running out a surprise victor of the Champions Mile almost exactly three years ago, Able One had won just once in the interim, with three different stress fractures to his off-fore and hind legs blighting any hopes of progress.

Yet on this occasion, he was clearly quietly fancied by connections, with stable jockey Darren Beadman opting to ride him over higher-rated stablemates Collection and Viva Pataca, both better suited over longer distances and preparing for the Audemars Piguet QEII Cup at the end of the month.

Five of the 11 starters had been successful at the highest level with three of last month's Mercedes-Benz HK Derby protagonists - Beauty Flash, Brave Kid and Fair Trade - best supported in the betting.

Beadman slipped Able One into a handy position in third and took over from pacesetter Beauty Flash at the top of the straight and hung on from the typically determined late rally from Mr Medici by a neck. Viva Pataca ran his best race for some time to finish third.

"Able One has had so many problems but he has always retained his class and has been sounder this season than for a long time," said Moore.

"I'm delighted he was able to pick up another Group race today. If there any flaws among the opposition in the Champions Mile in a few weeks he will be the horse to expose them.

"Collection was finishing off well before being checked late on," added Moore.

"He just finds this trip too short, but it was a good prep for the QEII Cup. The same goes for Viva Pataca who will also target the Champions & Chater Cup at the end of May and go for his fourth win in that race."

(I would have picked her, of course, but I also would have picked Bullish Win, Eight Plus Nine and Helene Witty who were all last).

Starlish and Red Ruler withdrawn form the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup.
