Linda Dougherty has a good article in theracingbiz.com. She's great.

The key point I got from it is that they are offering MidAtlantic 2/3 of the available rake. And it's not good enough.

I'd gladly take 2/3 of something it costs me virtually nothing to produce.

Remember that in PA, the casino law only dictates they have to do live racing.

Maybe that's the "End Game". Get rid of simulcast, get rid of OTB. Unfortunately, that would leave thousands of horseplayers with little or no access to ADWs and wagering. It would take a change in the law to do that.

Otherwise I don't understand it. I just think there are snakes in the grass.

Coluld be the end game. At some point say that OTB and live racing "not profitable" and seek a change in the law to allow casinos to operate without a racing dependency.

Only question is what year it is attempted.

One of the biggest problems is that I was restricted from wagering because of my zip code and on who I could bet with. I was stuck with Parx or TVGPABets. By law I can't bet Twin Spires or Expressbets unless I move.

As a result, there is a bunch of anger towards the MidAtlantic tracks as the info came out. I was approached today concerning a boycott of their tracks. I already do that as they have the most severe takeout in the country

All in all, a nasty thing and needless. What did it accomplish ? Nothing. Everybody lost. Handle was flushed down the toilet. Only result is horseplayer animosity towards the track. Great.

I'm OK with Monarch. You give somebody 2/3 of a product they don't pay a dime to produce and they want more ? Sounds greedy to me.
