Well stem cell research is a priority because horse racing fans aren't going to live forever. There's a 20 year window to keep the majority of fans alive.

Well Armed ran second in the Pacific Classic and won the Goodwood... both times beating many of the best horses America put out this year. I'm not arguing his placement amongst history, but for this year and what we've seen recently in racing, he's something we should at least appreciate, no?

Maybe they can put sunglasses on horses to emulate the WSOP. That should bring in some new fans.

I don't disagree with you there, but in perspective specifically compared to what we've had to root for in the handicap division in recent years and more so what we have to root for next year... being appreciative of Curlin isn't a crazy mindset.

Ya gotta admit, Travis, it was pretty funny watching those two young Euros blow by him at Anita.

I think it proves we are in a lot of trouble in terms of quality horse flesh on our side of the pond for years to come. We're not breeding horses to compete in those type races, and if we are, they're bought-up before they can even get to that point.

raven's pass was bred and owned by stonerside-they chose to send him there for turf racing, which paid off for the horse. they sold a half interest to darley, and then of course darley became the sole owner when they bought up stonerside in its entirety from the mcnairs.

http://sports.yahoo.com/rah/news?slu...v=ap&type=lgns

tis official....

“He is one of the best examples of the breed—fast, strong, and durable,” Jackson said. “I predict he will make a substantial contribution to our sport through his gene pool, and I am looking forward to seeing his foals compete and possibly exceed his unequaled race record.”

steve....we really need a nauseated or puking face...sometimes the eye roll just isn't enough.

unequaled race record?

this, from the assman:

“Curlin made his mark in the history books in so many ways: as a classic winner, as a colt who traveled to Dubai and captured the World Cup, and who returned to take three more Grade 1 races and tally record earnings,” trainer Steve Asmussen said. “His physical and mental attitude is unparalleled and he retires perfectly sound.”

but...i just want to know-did he ever stop and stare at a bird for several minutes?

And Jackson has said that's his final offer to buy the horse out, it won't increase.

So Jackson has Midnight Cry as minority partners through the stallion thing. I wonder what the contract says about participation and financial obligations of the minority partners re: the stud deal?

And if those lawyers have money to throw at a horses' stallion career as minority partners, yeah, I think those $$ ought to go to replace the $$ they stole from their phen-fen clients.

The BH article says a lawyer for Stonestreet said it might cost Tandy as much as $1million a year to support their share. Is that possible? He also invoked Cigar, so it might have been scare tactics. (Booga booga, expensive sterile horse, booga booga) I assume there's infertility insurance on him, right?

But, do you really deny Curlin was a good horse? Is he an all time great? Of course not. Is he even close to as good as Jess Jackson thinks? Of course not, but you're a pretty knowledgable fan. He's not Spectacular Bid good, but he's not Tomcito either.

I understand being turned off by everything on the human side of Curlin. And the media has made it difficult to defend him because of their antics. But, think about the last 2 years without Curlin. That's some scary bad racing. Especially this year.
Very well said.
