The more this goes on, the more I am strarting to feel sorry for him, in that stall for so many months, not being able to go outside and be normal. An animal should not live that way.

first they have to control the inflammation in the sensitive laminae of the foot, once that occurs they have to wait fot the foot to grow back (normal horse hooves grow about 1/4" per month. normal hoof length is about 4-5 inches). Laminitic feet grow back very abnormally so that will have to be addressed as it happens.
As for being stall bound; it is not so unusual for horses not to have access to the outdoors. Injury and or circumstance prevent many from being "normal," and assuming that he makes a recovery this situation will be temporary. Horses react to confinement in different ways, Barbaro has shown that his temperment and adaptability are well suited for this ordeal, another animal would not have tolerated what he has been through. It is what makes him so incredible and admired. His owners to are to be admired for their dedication to their horse.
