i've never heard imus so this is a completely uninformed opinion. i'm just thankful there is a place on the internet where this will just blend in...

i think he gets a lot of support here because of the giant belt buckle.

did he win that in a rodeo? i didn't know they have those in manhattan.

Imus being cancelled saddens me greatly! i've listen to him every morning for the 15? years he's been carried locally. he is NO racist. his comment was wrong and he DID not go out of his way or single out the RU basketball team. they were the replay being shown on msnbc at the time.
Imus at the time of the comment was an old white-man, tring to be funny or "street".

what's more sad in this are harold ford and barack obama! here was their chance to step up and make a differnce! instead they left sharpton and jesse jackson RUN Imus off the air.
Imus can't stand sharpton and jackson on a good day! so as-far-as i'm concerned the BAD guys won.

all the good that Imus has done for people of ALL colors and to have this happen is the BIGGEST crime!
the money he's raised for children's cancer that built a hospital in NJ and the Imus Ranch. the new state of the art rehab hospital in san antonio for Vets from the gulf war.
he took the walter reed hospital story and made it national and went after senators and congressmen on the radio on WHY it was happening.
he spoke up for the people of new orleans and the whole gulf coast after the hurricanes on the piss poor response of the government to help it's own people.

cbs radio and msnbc should be ashamed of themselves for allowing sharpton and jackson AND jealous co-workers run Imus out.
sorry for the rant. this happened while we were away and has been driving me nuts!

Default Bully Imus not a victim

sorry to bring back this thread, but I thought some might be interested in NY Post's Phil Mushnick's latest column:

Good column, thanks.
Just my take, and if you read anything I said on other threads, I never suggested punishment for Imus, just that I disagreed with him.
I also think Pgardn got it right, that the market became the judges.
That said, I started a thread about the great baseball player, Jackie Robinson,
who broke new territory 60 years ago at Ebbet's Field for the Dodgers.
He endured very nasty words, having watermelons an black cats thrown on the field, slurs...
So, when other atheletes 60 years later are again having insults thrown at them rather than recognition for their abilities, many people have said, "Enough is enough."

Peace.

that article was a joke and piling on. Imus used to beat on mushnick all the time.
the biggest thing that bothers me, all Imus "so called freinds" have ALL run for cover. even tim russert! jeff greenfield was 1 of few that stood up for him.

Poor poor Donnie I. Always the victim. He played it. It didn't work.
Too bad.
At least John McCain is sticking by him.
Go figure.

If telling the truth about Imus is piling on, then so be it. Howard Stern played a very telling tape of one of Imus' bits this morning, which was far worse than what he said about the Rutgers Basketball team. Don Imus is NOT a victim.

no, he's not a victim. those who live by the sword, etc, etc....i wonder tho, after so many years of going over the top, if he thought he was somehow immune?

ooops.

Tim Russert is showing his true colors. I thought he wouldve been a little bit more of a stand up guy for his pal Imus. Im no Imus fan but he sold an awful lot of books for Russert.

Exactly, Dahoss, that's the point that Mushnick was trying to make. I agree, Imus is a jerk, and he should not have been fired. For some reason, I remember hearing similar "Jayson Williams" phone call bits, but never that specific one. This one was both vulgar and viscious, far worse than what he was fired for.

that's for his employer (now former) to decide. that business is dictated by ratings and advertising, they lost the advertising, so they let him go. it's business. had they not pulled out their ads, he'd still be there. it's the $$$$$. nothing else, certainly not a sudden rush of good taste!

thats the another wrong thing in this story, lost advertising. advertisers threatened to pull out. most did not. they actually lost more advertising AFTER he was fired, because most sponsors backed the I-man and were ticked off that he was fired.
