Old Fashioned is the one I have, as well. If he can rate a bit I think he's the best of this bunch. Maybe that's what the jock change is all about. I've got nothing in the Bluegrass so I'm going to wait to see how it shapes up. It looks wide open to me.

Wonder if many will pick up Quality Road or Musket Man. Don't think I'll consider it, I need points now. I'll just hope they aren't up to it on derby day.

Whoever the three people are who are beating me right now ... I hate you!

Not to throw a little metrosexual purse clutching pissy fit ... but ... I tried to pick up This One's For Phil and couldn't because he wasn't nominated .. so I took another sprinter in Notonthesamepage instead .. there goes a Gr 2 win.

I tried to pick up Quality Road for the Floriday Derby ... but couldn't cause he wasn't nominated ... so I took Theregoesjojo instead .. so that's a Gr 1 win that slipped away.

Actually though - I made some horrendous early choices and am surprised I'm even in 4th. My most clever pick was Ventana - thinking Baffert would ship him East and he'd move way up on real dirt .. no dice. Still in So. Cal on a surface he stinks on.

I also took Atomic Rain thinking he might score some Tampa points - no dice.

I have Ventana, also. Never expected him to be a derby contender, but I thought he'd score a few points that first week. Free Country is my other star. He's race three times in the contest but could only manage a fourth, I believe.

I'm in 15th and have Square Eddie in my stable. Dew Stable, is tied for 13th place and also has Eddie. No other DT 'er under 15th place has him, so a win by Eddie could start to bring things a little clearer in this contest

Default I got a choice to make......

6 horses only 5 can be activated for the Derby, could use feedback.

1. IWR (no brainer)
2. Chocolate Candy (active)
3. Dunkirk (active)
4. Desert Party(I think active)
5. PON (possible toss because of the surface questions, but I'm not sure)?
6. Friesan Fire( The one I'm thinking of tossing the most cuz of the long layoff)? Still, I trust Larry Jones he's a smart trainer, and that horse looked so good in all those Lousiana wins. I guess I got a couple weeks to decide.

I should remember there are points for Place and Show in this contest as well. Though I don't think Dunkirk can win(nor do I have him in my Fantasy Stable), it would seem fitting and not too unlikely for him to come in 2nd or 3rd.

Desert Party is a will or he won't Derby type entry, there will be no in between

Fresian Fire I discount from the win spot because of the "no major prep in April" thing, and, despite always running on dirt, never receiving a Beyer fig on par with what the vast majority of past Derby winners(pre-synthetic ) had already achieved coming in: a 105+ Beyer in a two turn race. People are tying him in with Hard Spun due to the connections, but didn't Hard Spun have some more major preps?
I might be wrong there, so feedback, please

I believe Hardspun was yanked out of Oaklawn by Jones because of the surface right? Anyway, I appreciate the feedback Mike (my name too by the way), I think Desert Party will end up going, and he should like the extra distance, I could see him getting a piece of those 2nd or 3rd points.

Personally I will activate colts that have my jocks and or trainers regardless how I feel their chances as they will offer better 'value' if you will.

sub 6 for 2 and that's my lineup as of now. POTN is an auto because I have Gomez/Baffert and Dunkirk because of Prado who has ZERO points going in

If Quality Road wins the Derby ... I've got this contest cinched ... if not - I'm probably toast.
