I remeber Jimmy Wynn, the toy cannon. He once got an offseason job as a beer taster and showed up to spring training 30 pounds overweight.

I agree with Cannon that through 8 years of their careers...Pujols' first 8 years were better than Manny's. I am stubborn, but not that stubborn. And 8 years from now people will likely be calling Pujols the best right handed hitter in the history of the game perhaps.

And morty...of all the Indians myriad of problems this year...Jhonny Peralta was about number 99 in the list of 100 problems they had...with Cliff Lee being number 100 on that list.

So back to Manny....Dodgers have Manny,Furcal and Lowe as free agents. Who stays and who flies the coop? For my money, I definately keep Furcal, want to keep Lowe around(but would keep an eye out for others) and let Manny go, even though they need his pop. I heard he wants a 6yr deal..so see ya!

I think they let them all go. There is a chance they are all listed as type A free agents which gets them three first round picks. Nobody is paying Manny what he wants for 4 years, Lowe is going to go for above market rate and Furcal simply cant stay healthy. They may be a player for Sabathia and getting these salaries off the payroll and Jones and I think Garciaparra next year puts them in a pretty good spot. Not to mention getting rid of kents salary.

Well, Lowe is much better in a contract year. He wasn't good in 2007. Probably will be no better than .500 in 2009. The 1st year here, he was getting drunk in the clubhouse after games. I would guarantee Manny a 6 year deal. 10 MIL A YEAR BASE SALARY. 1 MIL incentive pay for every win over eighty/year. 5 mil incentive pay for any Playoff series won. Gives him the chance to make 40 mil a year, or 10 mil a year. He has to "encourage " his soldiers if he wants to break the bank. I want Furcal back, but he needs a very full examination, because I am not sure those throws were all nerves, or disappointment about falling behind in game 5. Werth hit him pretty hard, too. Furcal is very important to get a team off to a good start in 2009. No doubt, he could get hurt. He does play much harder than a lot of guys.

I agree that if Furcal is healthy....he's the guy to get it going. Lowe is up and down...would be better with a cushion of runs once in a while. You're a genius if you can get Ramirez to sign for incentives....he'd think you're challenging his manhood.....but he'd be a steal at 10mil with incentives, imo.

Have you guys forgotten that Manny walked away from the Red Sox for 20 million a year!! He wants, and will get, 25 million a year for 4 years or a 100 million just to start the negotiation....

I agree. I think Manny is going to wish he stayed in Boston. I don't think the GM's will be lining up to offer him what Boras thinks he's worth.

The only one stupid enough to pay him that kind of jack and ignore the rest of the baggage is Hank.

What teams can afford this greedy agent's demands? I can't think of a more self-centered duo. Whoever is willing to be the stupidest will get him. Who owns the Mariners? Still the Japanese with money to dump in a fire pit? He's gunna sell-out. If they are willing, he will go vegetate in the coffee n' mist the rest of his career.

I can't blame him for not coming back to L.A. They got no shot to go to the World Series if they ever give the ball to Billygoat again. If he thinks they are stupid enough to do just that, then he won't sign here. That guy was so out of control tight that he couldn't retaliate when they threw at Manny. He was incredibly angry at that Billygoat about that.
