Hell, Xavier has more than UC does, one of their guys just got put in jail for murder.

I know one thing, they sure make better NBA Players at UC than Duke does.
Well heck then lets call it even. UC makes better pros, thats an arguement on which side of thuggery? K-Mart is just a dandy, and he is actually one of their model players. Huggins... why did he leave? His graduation rate was too high?

Bottom line and in general: Duke gets better kids than a whole lot of these other schools. Are they perfect citizens... No. But they dont pick them off the streets and then dump them back. Duke has fielded the best B-ball teams in the past 15-20 years. It may be too much for some to stomach. I dont even particularly like it. But it is what it is.

Why don't you tell me how they calculate the graduation rate?

Going by the way it's calculated, I didn't graduate, even though I have a diploma to prove it.

Hell I dont even care about graduation rate, they can come back to school and graduate. A number of schools take their ex-athletes back because they know how arduous school, and a commitment to a sport in college, can be.

I know a kid who plays for BYU (Trent Plaisted), I had him in High School. I asked him how classes were going and he said it was fine because they got tutors and could take class lectures along and listen to them on the road. They actually go to classes when at school, and study when traveling. Said he is learning a heck of a lot more because he is taken care of very well; if he does not understand something, he can get personal attention. Opposite story. I have an ex student who is playing NCAA division I Womens basketball (she remain nameless). I saw her this summer and asked her what her major is now. She answered basketball. Heck I make more money than WNBA players and she is majoring in... Its happening on the women's side also. And there clearly is no future for women in any team sport. Unless you are Lisa Leslie.
The more pertinent question(s):
Do they even attempt to take classes? Do they even go to classes? That is how bad it is at some schools. They take poor kids and use them. The kids are also at fault because they are into the mindset they will end up in the NBA or go to Europe. And they cant even clean their underwear.

There are clearly schools that allow kids to become students. Notre Dame, Penn St. and Duke make an effort to do this. As much as I hate the guy, Bobby Knight does a relatively good job at getting kids to class. Texas has an extensive program for ex-athletes... A little trust gets built that way and your alumni actually help the program become better.

UC has a program for them to come back as well and some take advantage of it, some don't. It's like Huggins said, he was calling up some of the old guys and telling them to come back and get your diploma, then he gets Van Exel on the line, he tells Nick about the program, Nick laughs and starts telling him about the mult-million dollar deal he just signed, Huggins tells him to take some business classes to learn how to invest it, Van Exel laughs and hangs up. Alot of these guys that counted for the no graduation rate are still in town, teaching and coaching HS. It's amazing how many of them are still around, alot went overseas played, came back and got their degrees and are still here doing good things. They are all not bad guys, some are bad, but the majority of them were risks that came in, played hard, grew up and now are productive members of society. Alot of schools turned their back on them, is that really fair? Did you know tha UC had the highest GPA of any basketball team in CUSA for several years?

Huggins is no angel and it's best he's gone, but he's not the demon the media made him out to be. Believe me, you won't hear about any trouble from the players from this new guy. They are bad, but haven't had a true recruiting class in 3 years, but in about 3-4 years they'll be a nationally ranked team again.

It's funny you mention Laettner, I believe he has a drug charge and remember how he stomped that Kentucky Player, I have watched over 500 UC games and I don't remember any of them doing anything that vicious. And remember JJ, I think he got a DUI last year? But, I guess if you are a Duke player those things don't really happen.
