At least he hasn't gone crazy and told us that the Bears are going to be like the '72 Bears and go undefeated, Scavs has that market cornered...
He is consistent, I give him that. He likes to poke me, I realize that. No problem. I get a kick out of it.

I'm not blaming anyone. I'm just saying that Windu's point that "Mineshaft faced bigger fields" than Bernardini isn't really accurate.

Did you try DRF?

By DAVID GRENING
ELMONT, N.Y. - Bernardini, the leading 3-year-old in the country, worked five furlongs in 1:03.33 Tuesday morning at Belmont Park, his final move in preparation for Saturday's Grade 1, $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup. Exercise rider Simon Harris kept Bernardini even farther off the rail than usual, in part because of his dissatisfaction with Belmont's main track and in part because several horses had worked before him and the inside part of the track was chewed up.
Though Belmont's main track was listed as fast, Harris said the track had plenty of moisture in it because two water trucks went around during the renovation break. Harris said the track was still drying out from weekend rains.

``Today it was wet, but you were going right through it and I didn't like it at all so I probably erred on the side of caution than what I normally would,'' Harris said.

Bernardini got his final quarter in 24.71 seconds after going the opening three furlongs in 38.62 seconds.

``He's coming into this race as good as ever, today's work was just routine,'' trainer Tom Albertrani said. The Jockey Club Gold field remained in flux on Tuesday. The only other confirmed runners as of Tuesday morning were Dylan Thomas and Andromeda's Hero.

Trainer Patrick Biancone said Spanish Chestnut is not running. Trainer Nick Zito has not made a final decision on who he is running besides Andromeda's Hero.

Jokes aside, I think you're right that it's a negative going into the BCC that Bernardini won't have been battle-tested (unless Dylan Thomas freaks on the dirt). I know he's a monster, but I've yet to see how he responds when someone looks him in the eye.
He had bigger fields than Bernardini in the NO Handicap, KEE, Pimlico Special, and the Stephen Foster. The fields at Bel were small, that's true...It's not Bernardini's fault the field will be small in the JCGC, I don't believe the whole Invasior thing, but that's not his fault...

I'm sorry SC isn't going, because I'd prefer that Bernardini run at a target, but who knows?

Like with Mineshaft, it's not Bernardini's fault that the trainers of older horses are ducking him. They clearly feel that, whatever his competition, he's an exceptional horse. I think he'll be fine in the Classic, but I would really have much preferred that a test in the Gold Cup. Oh well - as long as he's healthy, I'm not going to complain.

He won his return race at Golden Gate this March and was 3rd in the True North (G2) on the Belmont undercard to Anew and Tiger. Also ran 3rd last out in the Lure Stakes at Belmont in a race off teh turf and was 3rd in a Toga allowance won by Awesome Twist. So, his post Derby record is

6-1-0-4-$97,550 - ITM 5 of 6 tries

I'm really glad that they pulled Spanish Chestnut out of the race. It wasn't fair to the horse.
i dreamed a black horse won the derby one year...i was rooting for the chestnut, and then sunday silence walked by in the post parade and my stomach sank....
and then a few years ago it was a chestnut. swore it was peace rules...but no, it was that other chestnut.
