I realize he was beaten 22 lengths yesterday - but that was by far his best performance this year ... at least he did some real running through some point in a race for the first time this year. When I saw how close he was to that pace after 4 furlongs were run - I said "if he makes it across the wire at anything more than a walk it's a miracle"

I think it was easily his most encouraging performance this year. He's simply a one-dimensional deep closer who needs to be taken way back early on. If he couldn't run at all anymore - he wouldn't have been able to keep close contact with that rapid pace yesterday.

6 magic beans and one set of Kentucky RocketShip Put-It-Together Yourself instructions.

That's probably as much as you will get for him.

What do you think... run him at Hawthorne or pass?

Would he have a shot?

Others have wondered...

The Hawthorne Gold Cup (gr. II) would be a good spot to let him go back to his normal running style and see if it can wake him up. No one wants to see a good horse, especially a Kentucky Derby winner, go out like this. ~

Ok I would run him off the layoff in the BC sprint or mile. Hope for a hot hot pace over a track he must like just a bit, and maybe rain. Then from there, I would lay him off till 2013 and bring him back Aqueduct winter meet that Fox race thats like 1 5/8 and gun him to the lead... See how that works?

i'd go over him with a fine toothed comb and then start him back at lower levels assuming nothing was physically wrong. if he couldn't do well in a couple allowance races, i'd be calling ky horse park to arrange a new home.

Poor thing is just a very slow horse who got lucky one day. I have been on the recieveing end of one of those lucky days.....sometimes you have action in one day and it throws the poor horse to the wolves for the rest of his career.

I live here and I won't go there. I cannot imagine there is a worse place for a racetrack on Earth. Just throw them on the highway instead.
