![]() Why is D. Wayne Lukas the object of so much scorn around here? That's an honest question -- I'm not trying to be combative. Since I started following the sport minimally about ten years ago he's pretty much been off the radar as far as the big dogs of the sport were concerned. I've absorbed enough of the game's history since to know that he practically owned the '80s, won four Kentucky Derbies, was the face of horseracing, etc. He was the most successful trainer out there. What happened in between? How did he become (relatively, to what he was) such complete horse$hit? Why are so many people seemingly happy about his fall from the top?
I've got so many questions... Like: What is the correct way to spell the plural of "Derby?" Is it derbies or derbys? Neither one looks right to me for some reason. |

I have no idea why anyone would feel "happy" about another's fall from the top whoever it may be unless he was a world dictator of some sort. |

Others can likely state more accurately, but I think there is often a feeling his 1980's success came by smart usage of meds. . For those established fans watching thoroughbred racing real time in the 1980's the media fawning over Lukas and family may have been a bit much. Kinda like the reason most people besides Yankees fans hate the Yankees. |

![]() Mine That Bird goes to Lukas
By Jay Privman Mine That Bird, the 2009 Kentucky Derby winner, left New Mexico on Wednesday morning bound for Churchill Downs, where he will be trained by D. Wayne LuKas, Dr. Leonard Blach, a co-owner of the gelding, said Wednesday. http://drf.com/news/article/113066.html Ok, I've gone to to the woodshed for spelling the guys name wrong. |

![]() There goes MTB's life. Lukas will butcher this poor horse.
Then again...those moronic owners of MTB deserve a trainer like Lukas. MTB will run dead last in The Foster. Then ship to Arlington to run dead last in the Million. Then ship to Saratoga to run dead last in The Woodward. Then run 2nd to last in The Jockey Gold Cup (there will be a breakdown in the race). Then finally not finish the race in The BC Classic as MTB finally says "**** this" and bolts from the track mid race.....then runs away to never be seen again to escape Dr. Hannibal Lukas. |

![]() Wow, their reason for making the switch makes a lot of sense: "Last year, we basically did a one-horse stable, and we didn't think that was feasible this year, especially with the limited amount of races he's going to have this year."
