Opening day 2007.... First race - there's a horse called Ecclesiastic Cat (or something very similar, perhaps Bigs can recall) Our boy completely butchers the things name 15 SECONDS into the meet....

A record I'm sure will stand for decades

I don't remember the horse's name, but I do remember it was a 1 1/16th race and he botched the name before they got to the wire for the first time. Less than a 1/16th of a mile into the meet.

That said, I have nothing but love for Richard Grunder.

I think it was the double header day last year when we saw him downstairs in the simulcast area about 15 seconds after calling the last race. It was at that moment when my love for everything Grunder skyrocketed

I Don't blame him, even Byk could butcher a name like that.

most of us announcers are actually punting sooner than that, atleast the ones who have machines up in the press box!!

Default TB Derby

When they were entering the stretch, he said, "Odysseus will have to wait for another day."

Nice assumption, schmuck.

Well, it's not like he was pronouncing it right, anyway.

I would like to know one person who had that horse that didn't think he was completely toast at the quarter pole!

I mentioned that in another thread. I thought he wasn't going to hit the board let alone win the damn race.

The best one ever was when he was pronouncing the "t" in "Promise Me Merlot" race.

I like Grunder -- mostly because hearing his voice reminds me of shortsleeves and Florida sunshine -- but when he called Karelian "Curly Anne" a couple of weeks ago...
