So, it seems this information is not as hush-hush as posters here would like to think

Who even implied it was " hush hush " or anything of the kind? People, at least these days, seem to read what they want to hear.

Just because we now live in a society where people seem to enjoy spreading rumors, some true and many false, in an anonymous venue like the internet, doesn't mean it is appropriate behavior. And, Rupert works in the industry, and I don't think it's unfair to ask him whether or not he would post this kind of rumor if his real name was attached to it. This is certainly a question I ask myself here on a regular basis.

I don't know Bobby Frankel, in fact I've never spoken with him, but I respect his right to privacy as I would respect anyone's. Just because many others don't doesn't make my position wrong.

1) Maybe we are moving toward HIPPA training for everyone. Health care workers have had to examine this with humility and a consistent respect for privacy concerning health matters maybe we should share that training with others.

2) I would be very careful about speculation concerning the prognosis of lymphoma. The many different cell types (Hodgkins vs non-Hodgkins) and various responses to treatment make blanket optimism and pessimism very iffy....

My prayers for Mr Frankel and his family and a hope that all of us are spared such difficult moments in the future.

Alot of people on this board are in bad need of a high colonic.

I can't believe how uptight some of you are recently. What's with all the high and mighty bullshat and the holier than thou attitude (BTW, Stone Gossard to name a couple) lately?

I don't think this Frankel issue is a rumor at all. I've read the same on another message board "filled with CA posters". It was "allegedly" announced on a LA radio program and discussed openly on two other sites by "people who work at the CA tracks".

I agree on the privacy issue, but Frankel is a high profile ,well known public person.
The news that he is sick with lymphoma is difficult to keep quiet, especially when it appears to be a known fact in CA. And to expect this terrible news to remain out of the public consciousness , especially in a horse racing venue, is unrealistic in the 21st century of the internet.

Here's the difference.....I am accountable for what I post.

Plus, I won't ever apologize for respecting the wishes of someone who is gravely ill. If that's " holier than thou " then I can certainly live with it.

Accountable? Accountable for what? Do you know Frankel wishes his condition to be private? Even if he does, it's not as if he's keeping a secret like him cheating on his wife, or something embarrassing like that (I am not implying anything here at all).

And it's not just the Frankel thing. The whole thing with Stauffer was ridiculous. It's so ridiculous, I'm pretty sure Gossard had to be doing that for some reason that had nothing to do with his claim of bias.

It's hardly a stretch from the article to think Frankel wishes to keep it private. Being that it is his life, I think the least someone can do is assume that until HE makes the choice to discuss it, keep it private. Clearly others disagree....but that doesn't change either my opinion or the way I will lead my life. Just because it's not " embarrassing " doesn't mean it isn't private. In fact, one could argue that makes it moreso.

As for the other thing you referred to.....that's not my concern. I didn't bring up the issue, or engage in the conversation, but that was someone's personal opinion about something public. Apples and oranges.

I once called Bobby Frankel to interview him for a story with The Saratoga Special... I was nervous as balls. He's very direct and if you're not experienced with interviewing hard interviewees, it's like walking into the lions den. He was really cool though, and it went well.

Hope he's back at the track soon.

However, and certainly not unfortunately, we live in an era were information is much more easily disseminated than ever before. So, if Frankel and his family want to keep his condition a secret, they would need to go out of their way to let as few know as possible. Probably a good idea to limit this to family members. Quite of few public figures have 'figured' this out, though not exactly in a timely manner.

If it's around the backstretch, then why would anyone take offense if it reaches the web? And requiring that one needs to first reveal his/her identity before disseminating something that, apparently in this case, quite a few already know really goes against all those 'anonymous sources' that are the staple of many of our news (sports, entertainment, etc.) stories.

Great in some pervented way you are right and then I remember I am a human being and wonder what it must feel like to know your life MAYBE coming to and end. So being right doesn't seem to apply when it could be a matter of life or death.

I am guessing like 98% of the people respond with the proper answer since he has been honest with his identity on this and all internet sites for as long as I have known him; never once hiding behind his ridiculous moniker.
Cardus welcome to the 2%'ers, unlike whole milk the cream doesn't raise to the top neither did your post.

High and mighty? What...because I have an opinion different than yours and others it makes me high and mighty? I am sorry if you can't handle me busting your balls.....but I am far from acting high and mighty.

Yeah I had a reason. I watched the race and thought it was a ridiculous call. What the hell is wrong with that. There are plenty of threads on here which I feel are ridiculous...but you know what...I stay outta them. I don't jump in whining and crying that the thread starter is being unfair.

You out of anyone on here should be talking....you wrote a thread about DrugS walking around with one contact lense in. Talk about useless drivel being posted on here.

This business that Frankel is subject to gossip because he is a high profile personality is just garbage. What ails him is no one's business besides his own, his family and his doctor. That should be enough for anyone. It's not the public's right to know and speculate just because the person works a job in the public eye.

Things you read on message boards and hear on the radio from unverifiable sources do not necessarily make them gospel. I'm not saying the man isn't sick, but it's clear he wants his business to be just that.

Obviously, Frankel and those close to him were approached by Grening and the DRF to shed some light on the situation. Obviously, in the position that Dave Grening is in, he is able to gather information that many others are not privy to. Grening has a strong reputation with the DRF for his work, and it's quite obvious that if Frankel did not want to share the information with Grening, it's very likely he wants to keep this private and within his immediate family which can be expected in a time like this. He has every right to privacy, and even if someone were to know what is ailing him, or rumors were circulating as to what was ailing him, it's very much his own prerogative whether to speak to anyone regarding his condition, and in a paper such as the DRF where so much is public knowledge, if Frankel wanted his illness to be public, surely he would have given the information to Grening to be presented in that forum/manner.

Actually I was wrong about Dave writing the article. It was Steve Anderson.
