Default Questions....

When I look at the racing form, it will list the horse’s sex as gelding, philly, colt, etc….
It will sometimes list the sex as “horse”. What does that mean?

Should Peppers Pride be nominated for an award this year based on his undefeated 17-0 record?

What happened to Cable Boy? (Jersey bred)

I have a 4njbets account. Why am I allowed to bet at Hollywod Park when nobody else is?

Who thinks Ed Burgart is the best and who are these hot chicks at Los Alamitos? http://www.losalamitos.com/laqhr/[IMG][/IMG]

Take this with a grain of salt, as I'm no expert....

I think the designation of "horse" comes after a colt turns 5. Of course, a colt still has his plumbing, as does a "horse".

Much like a female retains the "filly" designation up until she's 5, once she is 5 then she is designated as a "Mare".

So, an ungelded male is designated a "colt" at 2, 3, 4, then a "horse" at 5 and up.

A gelding is always a gelding, no matter the age.

Then again, I could be wrong...

I know it used to be that way with harness horses, not sure if it still is.

per the DRF PP's for Zenyatta, she's still listed as a Filly (4 YO)... interesting.

That's how we do it in NZ and Australia. Colts become horses at 4, fillies become mares at 4. Don't know why it's different, but there you go.

Because of the difference in the respective hemisphere's breeding period(s).

Guys above got it right. Horses, even early maturing Thoroughbreds, aren't 'grown up' until they are 5 or even more, like your dog may be near full size at 1 and capable of reproduction, but isn't fully grown until 3. Colt and filly refer to horses below the age of maturity (even as foals, weanlings and yearlings). The use of 'horse' , 'dog' and 'cow', which previously referred to only one gender (male, male and female) as the general term for the animal breed confuses the issue.

Peppers Pride has been running against fellow New Mexico-breds exclusively. She may be New Mexico's Horse of the Year, she hasn't faced any horse of real merit. Hallowed Dreams, during her streak, faced and beat open company at Fair Grounds and Louisiana Downs, at least.

Ask the TOC. I'm with Twin Spires (previously BRISbet) and I can't bet Churchill!!

philly ===>

"A horse is a horse, of course of course, and no one can talk to a horse of course, that is of course, unless the horse, is Mister Ed!"

While Pepper's Pride did have a nice year, and broke the "modern day record of 16 concecutive wins by a North American based horse", her accomplishments this year were not enough to even be considered.

2008 3-3-0-0 $127,920

2008 1st Sydney Valentini Handicap [OR] ($60,000, SUN) $100,000
2008 1st Russell & Helen Foutz Distaff H [OR] ($45,000, SRP) $75,000
2008 1st Allowance Optional Claiming ($22, 920, ZIA) $38,200

Lovely picture of a girl I like very much and one I've defended when the haters chime in. She's accomplished much and should be applauded and respected.

To you, Ms. Pepper.

That said, absolutely NO way should she be HOY.

His last 5 works have also been on the turf.
