This is just my opinion but had Bailey ridden SJ that day and not Stu Elliot. I don't think he would have panicked and Smarty Jones would be a TC winner today. He didn't need to inject him into the race so early, when he probably should have been sitting 3rd behind the speed.

And then he whips the horse when he is fried.
I guess he was worried about the superfecta.
