I wouldn't play the opening day at Del Mar at all. In fact, I don't think I would play the whole first week. Nobody really has any idea how this new surface will play there, and without at least SOME information on the track bias, I think a wait-and-see approach makes the most sense.
Also, what will the relationship be between horses' performances on Hollywood's cushion track and Del Mar's poly? Are they different enough to treat them differently? If so, how differently? We don't know that for certain yet either.
I only like to bet if I feel like I have an advantage over most of the other people betting in terms of information or skill. I don't feel that way here. With all of the unknowns going into the opening week at Del Mar.....betting the races there seems like like a big crapshoot to me.

Agreed! it is probably a good time to be a numerologist. Open day has some good turf races (total of 4). Might take a stab at them.

Good luck to those who play...

I Got News For You Cautious Players. This Is Called Gambling. Gambling Has No Guarantees, No Edges, No Rhyme Or Reason, So Just Take Your Shots At A Track Where You Have No Clue If Bombs Are Coming In Or Chalk Is Coming In: Poly Or Not It Still Is Going To Be The Same Weird Results, Or Steady Diet Of Chalk.

I completely disagree with you that this game has "no edges" or "no rhyme or reason." Are you telling me that people with knowledge like DrugS, hooves, Steve, or Mr. Serling (and many other players on here) don't have an edge over the people that go to the track and play the same numbers over and over again in every race and can't even read the past performances? That is just ridiculous. Of course they have an edge over those people. Why do they have that edge? Two reasons:
1) They have more information than the other players.
2) They have the analytical acuity to put that information to better use than the majority of other players playing the races.

I am merely suggesting that in this situation, there is simply less information available, so the advantages that a good capper has over the random player are minimized.
If there was "no edge" as you suggest, playing the races would be the same as playing the slots or the lotto. I assure you it is not.

I'm going to take the approach that I took at Keeneland for this years Blue Grass week-end. Class wins. First time I ever came back from Keeneland winning was this year with the Poly

A hidden little angle I've used with success at Keeneland and Arlington at the beginning of meets is to upgrade horses who have Polytrack experience or have worked over the Poly. That does not necessarily include Cushion Track.

has anyone taken a look at the new jockey colony on the left coast?

Chris Landeros (TUP product)
Tom Foley (TAM product)
Alonso Quinones (KY Product)
Luis Garcia (MD/VA product)
Iggy Puglisi has a mount tomorrow along with GF Almeida who i have no clue how he earns a living with his spot duty.

Also noticed that Cody Autrey has taken some his stock out there all the way from KY....... head WEST my friends

Quinones is out there because Talamo loses his bug. I think Garcia has a shot to stick, could be a good bomb alert type jock. Iggy is just getting back from the injury, he was below par when riding and might be lucky to get one win, he might be a moron on TVG but from all accounts a good guy so lets hope he gets two wins

If Cody Autrey or Joe Orseno brought out any claiming horses..there will be a 20 way shake for each one they run.

GF Almeida usually brings in a Turf bomb or two during the meet.
