It was nice to walk into Suffolk Downs this past Saturday and smell some fresh paint. I hope Fields does well. Suffolk could be a nice place. It is in a great location. I've met people there who have a layover at Logan and stop by to watch a few races - now that is a much nicer way to spend a layover than hanging out in the airport.

The political climate in MA is changing and hopefully Suffolk will be a beneficiary of this. Of course, DiMasi will need to be won over with special consideration for the Raynham dog tracks as that seems to be his pet (no pun intended) project.

Who knows, we may be able to hold the MassCap again - the last was one was a great finish. Last year they were going to move it to September, hoping that it would be a prep race for the Breeders Cup races, but then cancelled it because they couldn't justify the $300,000 purse going to "outsiders" and wanted to spread the cash out to the local horsemen.

We shall see - I will be thinking about all of this when I immerse myself in Not by a Long Shot!
SuffolkGirl, you will enjoy this book, I think

As you say, the political landscape is changing around here, but like everything that runs through racing in MA, it will need to meet the needs of the Carneys at the Raynham track.

Suffolk has the potential to be a nice place. I liken it to the oppourtunity the city of Baltimore had when they built Camden Yards downtown. If done correctly, it can help revitalize an entire area. No question that 1A in Eastie and Revere could use a boost.

The MassCap being back would be great. I went to the last one with Offlee Wild and Funny Cide and I believe there were 23,000 on hand. It was a great day (and I hit the pick 4, so I was cool with that!).

Northampton no longer has racing. I think the last meet was in 2005. The fair circuit no longer exists in Mass
