Now Titletown Five is in?

The Orb camp has got to be liking this - it could get "Derby ugly" up front again with Oxbow, Goldencents, T-Town 5, and even Govenor Charlie going at it.
Betcha Vyjack doesn't fly out the gates this time.

In Departing vs. Orb, not only do you have the Claiborne/Phipps/Janney angle, but you've got the Illinois Derby winner vs. the KY Derby winner who coincidentally had the most Derby points going into the race if memory serves. Like anybody, I want a TC winner and it's the right horse, breeding and connections for the history books, but if we sadly end up Crown-less for another year, it might have the positive effect of forcing them to put the Illinois Derby in the points system however much Churchill despises Hawthorne.

I think this has the potential to be a great wagering race...each horse (save Power Broker) will likely take money due to a variety of circumstances. No triple crown but should still be fun.

13 in that field, but a race I hadn't seen on video before:

Some interesting stats in those newspaper clippings:
- It was the first time the Derby winner skipped the Belmont since 1970; and
- Largest field for the Belmont was 14 in 1875
