Default Question about "v" after claiming price

What does this mean? Something to do with vet and claiming that horse?

3500v

Thanks,

Spyder from SC

I guess it would be presumptuous to want to know the reason for the voided claim. Was the hoss lame after the race? Did the owner spell the name wrong ? Really no reason not to list the reason.

Who was more impressive yesterday Flightline ? Or Big Andy with 9 winners on top on the Talkibg hosses show. ?

A claim voided for something technical such as a misspelling, not sealing the envelope, not time stamped on time, incorrect date on the claim card, would never appear in a past performance.

It's treated as though there NEVER WAS a claim.

When you see the (v) in the pp's it's something that happened either just after the running. For example, vanned off for unsoundness or sometimes profuse bleeding. Or the horse didn't pass the veterinarian post-race inspection.

Now in the HISA world we will also start to see claims voided if a horse comes back with a positive test.

Interestingly, well to me at least, even if a trainer requests a split sample and it comes back clean. The claim is still voided.

I personally don't agree with that rule. What if for some reason a trainer gets caught speeding. Running one that's worth $50,000 for $12,500? Happens all the time these days. What if you LOVE the horse and don't want to give it back? As the rule is currently written you don't have that option. I think new connections should. It's being discussed.

A further complication is what if you run the claimed horse back before the bad test hits? If he's ultimately going back to the original barn who owns him for that race?

I've heard that all claim slips are supposed to have a box on the back to check saying you'll take the horse as is, no matter what happens. Our slips in Denver didn't have that.

I said one day on a HISA zoom call. With these confusing new rules all tracks are going to have to build an additional barn. Now along with the receiving and test barn. Each track will need an "escrow" barn.

We had one such incident in Denver. A horse claimed on opening day got a bad test. She was claimed. Ran back before the bad test came back. When the dust settled the new trainer had no choice in the matter. He HAD to return the horse to the previous trainer. They negotiated fair compensation for the new trainer for the time the filly was in the new barn. The purse money she earned when run back was credited to the 1st trainer and taken off the negotiated amount.

This situation was further complicated by Colorado rules which state a horse that tests positive for this substance, in this case Clenbuterol, is automatically placed on a 180-day vets list and cannot be entered BY ANYONE until that time passes.

UNLESS!! The split comes back negative: confused: opening and EVEN BIGGER can of worms.

As I said on a previous post. Some of the HISA rules and protocols need some massaging. But IMO they're well intentioned and will ultimately serve our game well.
