Default Bodemeister better version of Congaree.

Watching his derby was like watching a replay of Congaree's derby.

Imo Bodemeister is a better version of Congaree.

Better? No, similar is fair at this point.

Better is over the edge right now, but historical perspective is tough to have in this day and age. That being said, Bodemeister is a REALLY good horse.

Ntamm1215 any idea what the Beyer for the derby might be?

I'm not so sure... Congaree didn't like it over a mile and an eight. I think Bode can still improve, and if he can slow down fractions just a little I think he can run a mile and a quarter pretty easy. Time will tell.

With all due respect to Congaree, I thought Bodemeister's Derby was more impressive.

I strongly disagree with you and think you should watch the replay of the 2001 Derby again.

Congaree toyed with Monarchos in the Wood Memorial.

Obviously the Derby pace in 2001 worked to the benefit of runaway Derby winner Monarchos and the detriment of Congaree...who ran a sensational 3rd.

Here was the type of form Congaree posted for an entire calendar year as an older horse...

He was a good one.

I've watched it many a time, and I think what Bodemeister did today was more impressive.

Different era... Back then 110 beyers were normal. That being said Bode was MUCH THE BEST TODAY, not even really close how much the best that horse was.

Pars have dropped about 4 or 5 points since.

A 110 in that era is like a 106 or 105 in this one.

He was a good one.

If only his entire career could have been contested at Aqueduct..

As good as he was, he burnt an enormous amount of money in his career.. he went down a lot of times at under even money. One of my favorite examples.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xM7wqfvZ9SM

Bodemeister ran huge today, but he was toast at the eighth pole. The fact he held for second as gamely as he did shows he has tremendous talent but also that he is lengths the best in this crop as of now.

Congaree was within range of an extremely fast pace, made a 5 wide move to take over the lead outside the 1/4 pole, completely buried the other pacesetters and stalkers (including Point Given) then grudgingly gave way for second.

Bodemeister ran an excellent race today. Congaree's Derby was better.

Congaree was a GI winner at 7,8,9, and 10 furlongs and the only other horse in the 21st century to do that is Ghostzapper. While he had issues with being consistent, he was an immensely talented racehorse. To say that after five races Bodemeister is better is very silly.

He did come out of that race with a reported injury a few days later.

Congaree was 3rd. Invisible Ink was 2nd.

Right, that's why I said grudgingly gave way for 2nd.

Oddly worded, but correct I suppose.

Given his tough campaign (by today's standards), Pioneerof The Nile's dud in the Preakness, and the fact that the passed the Preakness with Nehro last year, I'd say Bodemeister is pretty unlikely to run in two weeks.

Someone said he was staying at CD for Preakness prep earlier... I think he's going.
