Starting this Thursday, Churchill Downs will begin offering 50-cent minimum trifectas and Pick-3 wagers. The 50-cent trifectas have been popular at tracks across the country including Keeneland and Arlington Park.

In addition to the 50-cent trifectas and Pick-3 wager, Churchill Downs also currently offers a 50-cent Pick 4.

First post at Churchill on Thursday and for the rest of this week is set for 12:40pm Eastern/9:40am Pacific.

Good move.

Next Friday Sam Houston opens and their trademark is 12% takeout on all pick threes.

They were, somewhat inconsequentially, the first track to offer 10 cent supers.

With that 12%, the payoffs are pretty good, or because what has to be a small pool, does it really matter?

The pools are small but the reduced takeout puts more in play (Capt. Obvious).

Great move - the cheaper the bet, the more handle...

I have totally jumped off the pick 4 and on to the pick 3... I dont know if this is good or bad, people can now cover a lot more combo's... We shall see.

I'm not sure either, but I think the Crist multi-ticket method is the way to go. It will allow you to play more tickets and therefore cash more even if your opinion is a little off in 1 race.

It's a bad idea for pick 3's.

Disagree- helps avoid tax tickets. Pool sweepers would be the only prices that might get dampened, and even that I'm not sure about. Lower minimums benefit the player greatly.

I agree - for example, when Supers were a $1 minimum I hardly ever played them...now that they are 10 cent minimum I play them. I would play more pick 3's and pick 4's if the minimum bet was less. And they also help to avoid "signers". All exotic bets should be a 10 cent minimum IMO.

I just feel that it will be a temporary boost to the pools that could result in a decline once the regular pick 3 players figure out their returns are being cut by bottom feeders.

You're the math wiz though. It just seems like there would be a few more winners.

It's still very easy to have a dime super that is a signer....thank goodness there are plenty of ten percent cashers at the track.

I agree. Play plenty of dime supers and have had 2-3 signers in my life. Majority of hits in the $50-$100 range.

I am saying that you don't understand what you are saying because it is really really wrong.

$1 Super signer = $600
.10 Super Signer = $600 = $6,000 per $1

6000 versus 600

Yeah, it's tougher, but it happens. A number of BC superfectas were signers for a dime.

If you can...pull up the results for Kee fall meet...I think you would be surprised at what % of dime supers were signers.
