Marty Wolfson transformed from a ham and egger - just your typical fairly solid trainer into a genius capable of miracles.

People who think that the Wolfson that was around in the Mid to Late 90's could have performed the same impossible training achievements as the new 2006 to future Wolfson has ... they are either crazy or didn't follow racing closely back that far.

I don't know or care if he's cheating or not - nor have any clue what monumental thing happened in early 2006 to transform him - but he has a very big edge.

This article was very silly.

Here are some of my favorite parts:

Quote:
On the extremely rare occasions when he sent one of his horses, accompanied by wife Karla, to New York, it would win. Those familiar with Wolfson's talents knew that a Wolfson shipper was the closest thing to an automatic bet there is in racing.
Wolfson is 1-for-16 at Belmont in his training career - and 4-for-17 with no seconds at Saratoga. Couldn't he have just said Wolfson is great when he ships into AQU - where he's 4-for-9 lifetime?

Quote:
Miesque's Approval won four stakes under Mott's care. However, he had tailed off as a five- and six-year-old, running in claiming races. Retirement was contemplated, but the grandson of champion mare Miesque ended up with Wolfson.
Miesque was not the 2nd dam of this horse ... she's the dam of his fairly obscure sire.

It would be like calling a horse sired by Proud And True "a grandson of champion mare Personal Ensign."

Quote:
Unfortunately for Wolfson, what should have been a glorious accomplishment backfired. Some bettors, skeptical of anyone's ability to get a Thoroughbred to run better than previous trainer Mott, began to suspect Wolfson was using something other than hay, oats, and water.
Bill Mott is one of the all-time worst big name trainers ever when it comes to 2-year-old racing ... and he gets way more rocketships from the 2yo sales than people realize. It's not hard to improve a horse he had at 2 off of him - look at Pioneer of the Nile, Zensational, Kays And Jays etc. from just last year.

Mott is who he is because he is oustanding with older horses.

This horse goes from back to back 6th place finishes in claiming races on the turf as a 6 year old - to just one year later - blowing the field away by 4 lengths in the Breeders Cup Mile as a 7 year old.

And in case anyone forgets ... Wolfson shipped him to Dubai - where medication rules are tougher - and he finished 15th beaten 21 lengths.

There's a difference between improving big off of Mott ... and transforming a sour old hard hitting claiming horse into a dominant champion.

I remember the majority of contestants in a "show contest" begging that horse (Miesque's Approval) to get 3rd in a 40-50k claimer on the Belmont Turf(with Bailey, I think.) Soon after that, Marty begged to have a chance to work with that horse(voila!!)
