Default Night time after the Spa

Any recommendations for a 1st time visit to the Spa Travers weekend? Looking for some options or any "stay away!" referrals for drinks and or dinner after Friday & Saturday next week.

Have a racing junkie with me Friday. Any bar with cold beer and lots of racing talk/ loosing crying/ past glory stories would be great. Saturday looking for dinner with the wives after the big day.

I will leave the dress code debate alone as I am flexible. Hoping to bump into DT people all weekend. thanks.

Friday night, just about any bar in town will do but I'm partial to the Parting Glass for that type of atmosphere. You never know who will show up- last weekend it was Johnny V. Also try Siros, of course, or the Horseshoe.

I will check the links out. The wives will be happy if we cash a few tickets. With NY smoking laws they will also be getting less cigar smoke than usual with us. thanks!

They did in several places downtown the night before the Whitney, I'm not positive if the night before the Travers will be the same.

Some of the good bars in Saratoga are the Parting Glass & Baileys. Baileys has a nice outdoor patio & live bands. They once had guest jockey bartending nights for charity. A few years ago it was JV, Santos & Robbie Albarado. We had a great time hanging out with them & RA really likes to throw back shots. I know that there has always been live bands on Caroline Street during Travers weekend. I am not certain if they still do that.

Hit Siro's after the races, and then downtown. Go up and down Broadway, take a look at some of the hotspots -- you'll see 'em, LOL. Off Broadway, yes, The Parting Glass is a stop, City Tavern, Mare, 9 Maple, Gaffney's, and more. For dinner -- some of my favorites are Lanci's, Chez Sophie, Doc's Steakhouse, Grey Gelding, Springwater Bistro, and One Caroline.

Now, if you are looking to enjoy a cigar -- the only place you can smoke inside is the smoking lounge at The Wine Bar, or outside area at 9 Maple and Mare (I think you can still smoke outside at Mare -- not sure, so check first).

Enjoy!

Eric
