The absolute best part of the story:

Quote:
“The fact that Churchill Downs chose to move against Terry is a slap in the face of every racing commissioner in the country,” Engelland told The Blood-Horse. “Protecting the integrity of racing is the state commission’s job. A racetrack should never move on guesswork. In this TRPB investigation, no one ever talked to the trainers of any horses, never talked to the vets or grooms, never looked at the PPs to see if race was out of line on a Beyer basis...they’re going on pure speculation and supposition.”
I don't Mr. Beyer probably ever considered this possible use of his figures.

I can see it know, Beyer called as a witness.
"Mr. Beyer, do you see anything unusual about this speed figure pattern?"

And call Jerry Brown to reject the 'patterns' detected by Andy B.

I can just see Beyer on the witness stand, testifying. And in the courtroom watching are Brown and Friedman. When they ask Beyer about the patterns, Brown and Friedman shout simulataneously, "we're the only ones who know anything about patterns! You must dismiss his testimony!" At that point the bailoff goes over to both Brown and Friedman, handcuffs them, and escorts them out so they can get taken to a holding cell for being in contempt of court. Meanwhile, Beyer just shakes his head in dismay.
