from racingpost AMERICAN horse racing's biggest day might be getting the royal treatment this year. The US Secret Service in Kentucky is preparing for a "probable" visit from The Queen around the first weekend in May. The Kentucky Derby will be on Saturday, May 5. Special agent Paul Johnson in the Secret Service's Louisville office said a royal visit to the state was an "expectation". "A lot of her itinerary is very sketchy. We're in the preliminary stages," he said. The British government has already announced the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are planning to visit the US in May to mark the 400th anniversary of the settlement of Jamestown, but would not elaborate on her itinerary. "We're of course aware of the speculation regarding the Queen's visit," a Buckingham Palace spokesman said, adding: "These things take a little while to finalise." Racecourse spokesman John Asher said they were "aware of the possibility" of a visit by the Queen, but would not confirm whether she will attend the Derby. The Queen has visited Kentucky four times, in 1984, 1986, 1989and 1991, but has never attended the Derby, according to Mr Asher. But her sister Princess Margaret attended in 1974.
