Marr and his whole family work the New Mexico-West Texas QH/TB circuit. His folks, wife, brother and sister in law, children. All are involved in their operation. That's him ponying Pepper below.

Joe Allen owns Abilene's best BBQ/Steak house and cleverly found sire Desert God and is developing a NM-bred dynasty. He's a guy to admire. I had him on ATR while he was driving to Riudoso.

If people can't see the charm and beauty in Pepper's Pride and this story, they really aren't appreciative of the heritage and lifestyle involved in breeding, raising, training and racing horses.

And yeah you tell um Steve. Bunch of haters on here.

There's no hate. Just not understanding why this hose is counting towards Cigar and Citation's win streaks but not Camarero's 56 consecutive wins. Running with NM breds is the equivalent of running in Puerto Rico.

Maybe this mare "Hang Glide" has a bunch of nice hicks from the sticks involved with her too. I'll just assume that she does, and will therefore cheer for her to win instead of Pepper's Pride.
I really can't believe that many of you are going to be cheering against Hang Glide. Why do you all hate her so much? I mean she is five years old, she's from New Mexico, and yet MMSC and kgar and many others are hoping that she gets beat in this race. Man, you guys are just mean. What did poor Hang Glide ever do to you guys? People complain about others ducking tough horses and then along comes this little warrior in Hang Glide who isn't afraid to tackle the New Mexican Monster, and you pack of meanies all want her to lose?

Go Hang Glide.

Actually down here she would be called Lil Bit...or Baby Girl...but Tater Tot is all good too even though it must be some kinda Kentucky thang.....

Good Pics and remarks Steve....I heard him on your show and HRTV.

yeah like some said above it's apples and oranges, Cigar or Citation to Pepper's Pride.

But it's got to be a really fun ride for them and they sound like really nice horsemen.

Go Pepper's Pride, I hope she wins and beats that sweet lil filly Hang Glide.

They should be commended for earning the kind of money they have with a horse that would be up the track in most grade 3's. However, the human touch has nothing to do with the discussion that was going on and frankly, it's a cop out. Especially with the pictures.
If only they'd keep her around for the Sixty Sails.....

The irony of all this is that I bet you a hundred bucks these Marrs people are probably the Asmussens of the NM circuit. Probably involved in organized crime and what not. I figure the rib shack is just a front for some cowpie (or whatever they use for currency) laundering operation.

Everyone probably "loves to hate" them.

this pretty much helps my miss storm cats argument about the record not boosting peppers pride's standing historically.

everyone talks about citation and cigar when they speak of this great record. but where's mention of mister frisky and hallowed dreams? exactly! they aren't there, because no one cares about them. just like peppers pride will be a trivial spot in history, but cigar and citation will still be revered, record holder or not.
it's not as tho man o war has been forgotten because records he set are long-broken.

I really don't get why this is so hard for people to grasp. Somebody has to have this record. I would rather Citation and Cigar have it (or at least a part of it) than Pepper's Pride have it. When Brett Favre and Peyton Manning were approaching some of Dan Marino's records in recent years, I rooted against them too. It wasn't anything personal against them, I'm just a fan of Dan Marino.

If people want to cheer for her, fine. But some people seem to be under the assumption that everyone simply MUST cheer for her. Well........no, in fact they don't.
and i agree with what you wrote here as well....i argued that najran shouldn't be on the list as co-record holder at a mile with dr fager, but there he is....but dr fager is still the good doctor, and najran is the hallowed dreams/mr frisky of his day.

Yeah, but both of your above posts are talking about horses being TIED with legends in the record book. That's not what we are talking about here. We are talking about her breaking the record. Of course nobody will forget Citation and Cigar if their record is broken. That isn't the point at all. Nobody forgot Dan Marino just because his records were broken, but does that mean I have to hope they do get broken? I dont think so. I like Dan Marino better than Brett Favre. Therefore, I wanted Marino rather than Favre to have those records. For this record, I like some of the current record holders better than Peppers Pride, therefore I want them - rather than her - to have the record. It is pretty much that simple.

Why don't you just admit your real motivation here? You - like the rest of "them" - just hate Hang Glide and want to see her lose.
