In the majority, racehorses around the world are treated well 365 days of the year. They are bred to do the job of racing.

The majority of these horses love doing their 'job'.

It's just a sad fact that a tiny percentage of people in this industry let the side down, and it is this tiny percentage that the 'haters' pick up on. There are trainers out there that don't provide the best care, that don't treat their horses with the respect they deserve. Whatever the industry there is always going to be a small number that spoil it, why? Who knows.

It was an interesting point about the drugs. Do you guys really think the horses actually become addicted to these drugs, especially in America where druf usage is high, although legal? I must say, coming from a country where drugs are strctly forbidden in the sport i am against it, but after all of these years it would be almost impossible to change that ruling.

I love animals and some of the cruelty cases you hear about make me sick, but PETA and their supporters always try to twist facts to forward their views. Pure drivel from a PETA inspired WACKO!

Think about Alydar, who placed in all three Triple Crown races in 1978. His owners claimed he shattered his leg when he kicked his stall door. According to the FBI investigating insurance fraud, his leg was deliberately broken when it was tied with a rope to a pickup truck and pulled.

I'd love to see that from a legetimate source.............won't happen. (I don't think)

What happened to the 2x4 theory or the crowbar theory.

Rope would have left marks, truck would have left tracks. I have seen the barn Alydar was in. He was found in his stall. I guess they dragged him around, then got him back into his stall without a trace of blood or anything.

I drove a jeep through the back of my dads garage when I was about 12. He asked me to back it up and park it.

I thought the damn thing had enough sense to know to go backwords on it's own.

And stepping down on the gas to try and make it stop, when it started inching forward --- that wasn't the smartest of ideas either.

Her letter is of course one sided and biased, but even having a touch of truth is too much to put up with. As long as the industry insists on so many races at so many tracks every day, running less than healthy animals will be necessary and accepted.
With intertrack and satellite racing, it would seem less tracks need to run as many days...but greed is a terrible thing, and has ruined many sports.

If we really want to reduce deaths in this country forget cars, although they do cause many deaths.
