Default Pletcher has his mounts set for the Derby

Thought this deserved some attention...

Gomez to ride Any GivenSaturday in Kentucky Derby
by Jeff Lowe

Trainer Todd Pletcher has his jockey plans in place for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1), with Garrett Gomez taking the call on Any Given Saturday.

Edgar Prado will remain on Scat Daddy after guiding the colt to a victory in the Florida Derby (G1) when regular jockey John Velazquez was out of town for the Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) program.

Velazquez will ride Louisiana Derby (G2) winner Circular Quay in the Kentucky Derby, Pletcher said on Monday.

Velazquez also has been the regular rider for Any Given Saturday, who finished third in the Wood Memorial Stakes (G1) on April 7 at Aqueduct.

Fernando Jara will stay on Illinois Derby (G2) winner Cowtown Cat and Ramon Dominguez will ride Sam P., the third-place finisher in the Santa Anita Derby (G1).

What a lineup!

His stock may peak at 8.5 or 9 furlongs, but this is an all-star team.
No big surprizes but good to hear something as well. Looks like the Tabor home-bred Circular Quay has been their top hope.

Prado earned his mount in the Florida Derby with Scat Daddy.

Blinkers-Off yet with Sam P. ?

After having the pleasure of meeting Kent D on the flight to Lexington last Thursday, and the results he had from limited rides
4 winners top price being a $57 winner
2 seconds and 2 thirds. He deserves a ride on a good horse.

and you get the added bonus of him having won this race, not once but twice!

yea, thats is correct, his brilliant trainers new strategy is to take the horse back and make one run in this paceless race.

Interesting. I mean, could he have actually been one of the lone speeds? Especially of Teuflesberg doesn't go.

Hard Spun out there? Cowtown Cat?

Now they're going to change his running style on a few weeks notice? Great.

I like the horse, he's a fighter. But I'm not sure I can hope on the bandwagon May 5th.

Stormello should be 1000-1 to win the derby- regardless of style. . . This looks good for Hard Spun IMO. . .
