This is the ludicrous fantasia all SEC fans are involved in. Teams in the SEC that would consistently average in the .700s?? Vanderbilt...no, Kentucky...no, Mississippi, no...Mississippi State, no, Arkansas...no, South Carolina...no.
The bottom teams in the SEC are no good. The SEC is top heavy just like the Big 10...I would add Penn State and Wisconsin to MIch and OSU as pretty consistently winning teams. The SEC generally has two additional top teams to the 4 in the BIg 10. Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, florida, Auburn and Alabama (down currently.). The 6 other teams I mentioned above are no great shakes and never have been. It is not a 12 deep conference and never has been. It is a conference of have's and have not's and always has been. 6 really good programs and 6 other programs. That is the SEC. I agree it has more "top" level programs than the big 10 which makes for a tougher conference schedule year in year out...but you always get your doormats as well. IT is a very good football conference, but it is not a conference of 12 superior teams as it's delusional fans like to think. It has 6 superb programs and the other 6 teams...that is what the SEC is.
