Victor Espinoza picked up the mount after that defeat.

Even with Espinoza, California Chrome is a pretty feast or famine gate horse. If he breaks poorly, he runs the risk of getting his face dirty. He absolutely hated the kickback in his last defeat. He became uncontrollably rank.

Early speed and tactical speed horses usually don't care for kickback.

If you're going to talk about the favorite, you have to discuss pitfalls, if there are any.

This horse rocks in the gate. He practically beat the gate in the San Felipe and caught a flyer in the Preakness. He broke terribly in the Santa Anita Derby, but none of the three riders who had the opportunity, were smart enough to cross in-front of him.
I think we all got that the first time.

To go over this again and give us an aerial tour of Pimlico instead of showing live racing, was bad tv.
