![]() Dehere was an exceptional 2YO who unfortunately didn't get much chance as a 3YO. His win in the Fountain of Youth was tainted somewhat by Holy Bull displacing but he was a good horse. I think he was more of a closing sprinter in reality. His wins at Saratoga were some of the most visually impressive races I have ever seen.
To be fair, his loss to Holy Bull in the Futurity ( and I bet Holy Bull that day ) was as much the result of Holy Bull being loose on a sloppy speed track as anything. I loved Holy Bull but as 2YOs it's hard to say he was a better horse than Dehere. |

Then he lost to Ride the Rails going long in early 94.. and the FTn Of Youth, as you said was marred by Holy Bull displacing... He probably could have been a champion sprinter though with that kick he had.. |

Im glad to hear someone with a lot of knowledge and strong opinions speak highly of Dehere. He was a very visually impressive two year old that seems to lose a lot of respect of both his accomplishments on the track and his consistent results at stud with limited oppurtunity. |

![]() I honestly think his lack of positive publicity, so to speak, is at least partially related to general dislike for Robert Brennan, his owner ( who I believe is still in prison ).
Anybody that saw Dehere run knows he was a very good horse. |

![]() There is a lot more behind Dehere than meets the eye. He was considered a major disappointment as a stallion by Coolmore. Coolmore sold him for $9M and then they exercised their right of first refusal and recently got him back. The fertility issues with the horse have been part of the problem but the real reason Coolmore bought back Dehere was to weaken Arrowfield in Australia. Dehere was bought primarily for their Australia roster.
The major knock on him is that he has not produced any talented male horses in america. Graeme Hall is not exactly a horse you can hang your hat on. |

![]() here's dehere's page:
http://www.stallionregister.com/pdfs/dehere.pdf they must feel he's worth another look, bringing him back @ a 20k stud fee. and he's one of those rarities in that his AEI is higher than his CI.
