Since I am in the tire biz, let me tell you about the tire tariff. The main net result of saving "1000" domestic tire jobs is that millions upon millions of American consumers have been getting screwed. Tire prices are outrageous. When this was levied on Chinese tires, all others companies took advantage and sent their prices up a proportionate amount, screwing consumers. American retailers then started stocking as their low cost tires, products made in Indonesia, Yugoslavia, as well as many other God-forsaken places. This screwed consumers as well, as many of these tires are of way inferior quality to Chinese products. Did any of this benefit retailers? No, higher costs have been passed right on down the line, the only beneficiaries are the tire companies themselves. When the govt. tampers with the free enterprise, like Obama did in this instance, we all lose.
