Doug, I know you had that solid day a few years ago in the contest out west. Santa Anita when it was still poly, maybe? I think you won 8 of 9 races that day, or something of the sort. Have you ever picked 10 winners in a row?

As a public handicapper...

My 'Best Bet' in the newspaper once won 12 times in a row.

The most consecutive 'top pick' winners I've had in the newspaper is 7 (and it was over 2 days. I had top pick winners in the late double, and the next night the first five races)

As a bettor -- I'm primarily an exotic bettor...and I look for value.

I will certainly make win bets in situations where I think I'm getting great value (even on low-odds horses in the rare occasions I find them to be a great value) -- but I wouldn't have any idea what the longest streak of win bets I cashed is. Not something I think about because win bets are somewhat few and far between for me.

Picking 10 in a row is F'ing hard. As soon as I either succeed or fail at this task, I will start a thread in here trying to pick one winner a day for 10 days and see if I can do it.

I know you talk a lot about vertical wagers, but never hear you speak much about horizontals?

The only real draw back to my approach -- is that I have probable bet backs spread out at tracks all over the entire country...and it's a rare thing that there are two of them in the same p3 or p4 sequence.

This forces me to play more verticals and less horizontals. I'm also looking at some cheaper tracks where, even offshore, you can't really do anything with multi-win bets.

I virtually never use the 'all' button in any of my wagers. It's wasteful -- and if your goal is a long term profit -- you're hurting yourself.

You'll miss out on some real nice scores and have some VERY frustrating outcomes from time to time -- and it's probably not the best thing for my mental health ... but overall, when it comes to which horses I use with my key horse, you're going to do better if you try to be more precise and aggressive -- instead of fishing and wasteful. Doesn't matter if its a multi-race or single-race bet.

Six of them ran today. The streak of no 4th place finishes was broken. Amazingly, one of the horses at Suffolk went off at 11-to-1 odds. Pretty short price for a horse with an estimated 0.00% chance of winning.

A horse won the 1st race at Suffolk today at odds of 65/1.

http://www1.drf.com/drfPDFChartRaces...=20120814&RN=1

That horse was 4th fastest in the race, one point away from being tied for 3rd fastest, had made the early lead at this class level last time out, and had better late pace numbers than the two favorites, who were both speedball quitters. If something happened to the two favorites, the horse was as competitive as anyone left.

Anyway, 51 down, only 949 more to go.

Thanks largely to the aforementioned 11-1 shot, today's bums lost a cool $3,844 bringing the grand total up to $39,058.

Biorn actually ran in the 5th at Canterbury ... one horse scratched, the other ten all got buried.

73 down, only 927 more to go.
