Amsterdam is typically the safest bet I'm aware of for a resonable hotel at cheaper than Erie prices... but on occasion all the hotels in that fine city are booked on the weekend.

Used Priceline name your own price (bid $65) and got this one for $83 total. Rooms on their site go for $130 before tax. Downtown Albany, 35 miles away.
