Serious question.
I know it's hard to imagine how or why any sane women would voluntarily take up with a known beater, or return to one. The emotions, no self-esteem, all contribute to the woman not being able to just "walk away now", and some are attracted to men that are bad for them due to their own emotional disaster problems.

She can't leave if she doesn't have the emotional support, strength, money, a safe haven, help, protection, ... it's a very, very physically dangerous time for a woman (and kids) who finally gets up the guts to get out of an abusive relationship. They are hunted down and killed sometimes.

If you know a woman in such a relationship, get professional mental health help to help save her, to show her she deserves better, do all you can to save her, and don't get hurt or killed yourself in the process.

Love your daughters fiercely to give them self-worth and strength, and teach your sons violence against women is always wrong.

Edit: Just posted a very interesting piece making the internet rounds re: humor about violence against women in Politics. Hopefully, Hooves, Geeker2 and Witchdoctor will read it.
