I don't see it much at tracks that have plenty of horses and are creative with the way they write their races. Tampa for instance uses the "condition book" as a "very loose suggestion book" and mainly writes off the overnights depending on what they have available, thus you rarely have a need for this.

A real pain in the asz for trainers and owners who train up to a certain race only to have it replaced, but good for bettors as it helps to insure fuller fields.

Other places, that write primarily from the book, may find themselves a horse short for a certain condition and rather than scrap the race and try to write a different one from the overnights, may ask a trainer if they have one for the entry box to get a race to go.
