Nice piece in the Wall Street Journal today about Spitzer. It was telling a story about how he said that he would not allow any out of state indian tribes try to horn in the NY market. Then it went on to detail how his biggest campaign contributor is a developer (also aligned with Excelsior bid on NYRA) who designs casinos for some of those very same out of state tribes. When asked about this conflict his press man stated that the tribes represented by the developer would be exempt from his wraith. He is a first class phony with an ego the size of Mt. Rushmore. Personally I have no confidence that the NY racing situation will be resolved any time soon with Spitzer most likely trying to get Excelsior the bid which will raise the ire of just about everybody including NYRA, Empire and associates the NY breeders and NY horseman.

You are clearly more informed on the NYRA and casino situation than I am.
I liked Elliot because he seemed to be trying to reform the upper 1% of American wealth. I cannot speak intelligently regarding his views on the NYRA situation.

I think he may have done a bit of good but his continued grandstanding makes you wonder how much really was accomplished and how much was fluff for the media. His insistence to prosecute the former clerks of scales at NYRA despite the case being rejected by the 1st grand Jury makes you think that he is after headlines rather than reform.

I can respect that opinion.
He may be grandstanding, I certainly am in no position to contradict you. I was just hopeful.

Ummm... the guy's family is richer than the world. I don't know what his perogative is but it seems awfully conflicting.

I care a lot about this state because (a) I've lived here my whole life and (b) lived in every part of it from it's worst ghetto areas to it's ritziest areas of Manhattan so I know what's right and wrong with this place. Upstate NY gets screwed every way in funding and that's important to me that those areas get improvement, or we're going to be looking at an even more divided state.

As far as racing goes, NYRA is his worst enemy. He hates them almost as much as he hates the NYSE- this was the death knell for NYRA.

Jesus. This is not what I wanted to hear. I really appreciate hearing from someone who knows the situation firsthand. I am in Ky., and we OBVIOUSLY have our own problems. Out of ignorance, I ask this question, why does he hate NYRA exactly? I don't doubt you, just uninformed. Or, maybe you could direct me to a website?
