Never in a million years did I ever think I'd be defending a horse psychiatrist ...How did this ever happen?

....taking Derby Fever to the extreme, eh?

So, speed crazy horses are stupid? Or, maybe not stupid, but just a horse that loses it's mind when it runs?
No, not at all. Way off. Nothing at all to do with intelligence. It's social interaction.

I would much rather have a horse with a nice combination of speed and stamina but that might lack a little in the psych department, vs a horse that has a great dominant psychology, but is as slow as molasses.
Yeah, the faster they go, the prettier they get.

But: say you have two equal speed horses. They are each challenged by a strong and confident closer. One folds as soon as the closer comes alongside. The other looks it in the eye and gives it's all to stay ahead.

Go watch that web page, above, and listen to Baffert talk. He explains it.

here's someone who needs a psych exam:

If we were in the one-hole, we'd have to chase Secretariat for the track record. We don't have to do that now, so we'll play around with the other horses," said Dr. Kendall Hansen, who owns the nearly all white colt named after him and plans to have 200 family and friends on hand.

Now we're crossing over to Owner Psychology...which is good, which is good.

I think he's tryin to resurrect the John Travolta Sat. Nite Fever image with the shirt unbuttoned down to his naval....either that or he's trying to look like that guy trying to sell Testosterone Tablets on TV...

Was that one of those ABB Belts I saw vibrating under his shirt?

Yeah...this guy's a piece of work alright

Well if this guy was genuine he would agree with my observation. Trinniberg has been suffering from depression since entering this race.

We're ALL going to be suffering from depression if Doctor Ken-Doll Hansen wins....I can just see it...Accepting the trophy under the Twin Spires...Hansen and his Nurses ( or "Nieces") with their blue "tails" and Stilettoes....

Hansen's trying to be the derby god (small d small g)...but THE DERBY GOD ( BIG D...BIG G) will not be smiling

We can only hope one of the Nurses ( or "Nieces") has a wardrobe malfunction.....we'd all be winners then, right?

By the way.....How big is this guy's ego to name his horse after himself..unless he named it after Ronnie Hansen, the ol Oriole Shortstop from the 60's....poor Mike Maker...poor Mike Maker

I was at RFK when Ron made an unassisted triple play for the Senators. Diving catch up the middle, doubled up the runner on second and tagged the runner coming from first. Awesome moment for a little leaguer !

I had Hansen's (the shortstop, not the horse) Baseball Card the following year and yep, on the back of the card it said..."Ron made an unassisted triple play last year"...you know how nonchalant they wrote stuff on the back of the card...

Good field..no hit tho

Continuing off topic just once more I was always impressed with what a great teacher Ted Williams was. Ed Brinkman raised his batting ave. almost 80 points in his first year and had his two most productive seasons with him.

Senator's thread cont....you must be from the D.C. area? I'm from da UP Mich and I got to see Eddie Brinkman regress with the Tiger's after he left the Senators cuz yeah, Teddy Ballgame didn't come with him

Williams put the fear of God into his players...they pretty much had to do it his way.........and getting back (sort of) on subject, Ted's ego makes
Hansen's (the doctor - not the SS) ego look like a homeless person's.

Didn't NASA launch William's brain into space or was that someone else...Timmy Leary's I think. I know Ted was in some sorta deep freezer for a few years as per his son's wishes....

K DERBY to Brain's in Space....pretty good thread eh?

I didn't bet, but my top pick was Bode, my second pick Liaison, third pick I'll Have Another and then Creative Cause.

I thought the Eastern horses were pretty weak this year, as opposed to the last several years.

Interesting now that there is a major dirt track back in Socal, the Ca horses had a fighting chance.

The race for the post-Derby meltdown has started and this thread has taken an early lead.
