PLAYERS STILL IN: 32
PLAYERS OUT: 6539
TOTAL PLAYERS: 6571

We've picked 19 days, but 3 of the 32 remaining players show only 18 total win/place/show finishes. I wonder what's up with that? Probably got byes because of some technical issues.

Day 20... I'll probably go with Shrug in the 5-horse 1st race. Multiple defections from the 2nd, 6th or 7th races could change that.

Wasn't there a race early on that had no show betting or something like that? Believe everyone who selected that race got a bye.

You're probably right, with the added stipulation that the selected horse had to finish 3rd. I had two picks in races where show betting was cancelled, and my picks show up in the stats. My horse must have finished 1st or 2nd in those two races.

We were wrong, Mike. I asked the Santa Anita contact person, and he answered that it was the "No Contest" race that caused the difference. They chose to allow all picks from that race to survive, regardless of finish position. Seems like the right decision to me, too.

Shrug was scratched. The #1 looks substantially the weakest of the remaining 4. The 2, 3, & 4 are all pretty close. I was tempted to let the bettors decide (get the fav), but I think I'll go with the #2, Scofield Barracks.

I think this was my 3rd straight 3rd place finish. But at least my horse was 6 lengths clear of 4th place. One player is eliminated after 4 races, with 5 more players still at risk.

On to tomorrow's card.

Thanks, mmsc!

I had some frantic last minute indecision today. Main contenders were Moonstruck Maya in 5-horse 1st Race, Lisa Lulu in 6-horse 2nd Race, After Later in 9-horse 6th Race, and Circle The Moon in 9-horse 7th Race.

Ended up on Lisa Lulu as time ran out.

Thanks, Arletta. That one was a relief. And it ended my 3rd-itis, too.

After 2 races, 2 people are out and 14 have survived. 15 players are still sweating.
