Pretty upset. He's the first Derby winner I ever picked. Great Pimlico Special too. RIP. Could've been back at Old Friends, and I'm sure there was hope he might yet be one day. Michael Blowen gave it a good shot.

Not very many Alydars left alive.

Just saw the other day one of the last good sons of Secretariat died too, in Australia.

I know he was incredibly well-regarded in Turkey. Had sired almost 500 foals there and still has quite a few yet to race.

He won the first Derby I ever went to, and though my money was elsewhere, I was hooked on the sport that day.

First one I ever picked too. Later saw Best Pal in the Super Derby, but no winning ticket on him. He was upset by a local hero by the name of Free Spirit's Joy.

I just read on DRF that he had a heart attack, which caused his broken leg.
