I don't know about hardest trying, but I got a kick out of watching Unbridled Danger win today making him 7 for 104 in his career.
Honorable mention to the 10 year old Callmetony who has 3 wins, 3 seconds and a third from his 9 starts this year.

This year I would probably vote for Musical Romance, with a 14-5-3-1 record.
But if we're talking old campaigners and, you know, "random horses," I'm including Missile Motor. 15-2-4-3 for 2011, and a career 70-19-18-10.
