Probably trying to impress his woman by taking her to the Derby. Usually stupid decisions like this one are made because of some trim.
Fipke got to the KD once before with Tagg trained Tale of Ekati who finished 4th....so I think you are right...the lust to be there overcomes all else....this horse is nowhere as good as TOE.
