That would involve Cognitive ability far beyond his capabilities. It would be akin to a Pomeranian lining up in the gates and winning the Kentucky Derby..

Not being concerned about what happens in Egypt is a bury one's head in the sand analogy. We should be very concerned.

Egypt has been a deciding factor in keeping peace with Israel. We've been plowing $2 billion a year into Egypt's budget (mostly for military expense) to ensure the peace is kept.

I'm not saying Mubarak is a great guy to his people - obviously not. BUT, we and they have to be concerned about jumping from the frying pan into the fire. We don't know what's on the horizon for a new regime and IF one of the underlying causes for this revolution is the peace with Israel.

All I can imagine is that if a new regime takes a different approach toward Israel and so much as stares at them cross-eyed, the Middle East will erupt like it's never erupted before. And, that is (to my way of thinking) the main reason why we should be concerned about what's going on in Egypt.

I understand you are trying to make a point but dont you feel that this country gets involved in another countries affairs too much?

Speaking strictly about Egypt, I think the USA handing over $2 billion a year since the Egypt/Israel peace accords allows us to the privilege of being involved. Egypt has a lot to lose should they lose that yearly "stipend" unless, of course, the new US mentality is to have Israel beaten into oblivion.

although we open ourselves up to criticism if we do get involved, the rest of the world generally looks towards us in times of crisis. we get asked for help a lot, in a variety of ways.
it's only when we get stupid about what to do that we really screw up. when we ignore the bigger picture, or when we waste universal good will by becoming a tyrant.

The powers that be behind the Muslim Brotherhood CAN NOT be allowed to take over Egypt's military, ranked 10th largest in the world, and especially their air-force, including 200+ F-16's.

Whether we get involved overtly or covertly we will need to get involved. For the time being providing inferior replacement parts would be an idea I'll throw out there.

WGN is reporting Mubarek and wife have left the country. Heard somewhere that Baden Baden Germany courtesy of the USA was a possible destination.

There is little doubt in my mind that the US will ensure that someone who will "play ball" will find his way into office in Egypt. That country is much too vital in regards to regional stability. The US has been pretty good at that over time.
