I was in 6th grade.

Mrs. Patty was our teacher.We had her for 2 years.She was the best teacher I ever had...won't ever forget her.


She was a Black lady from the South.You could see the stories in her face and you knew they were true just by what she did.



One day, new meat really upset me. His name was Bernard..and he acted like it.He was a Honkie.

I started into him as we were coming back to the classroom right after lunch....right in front of the door.



Mrs. Patty came out and grabbed us both by the ear and drug us into the cloakroom.She was so mad she even pinched my arm....and it really,really hurt!

I forgot all she said, but at the end---she made us kiss each other on the cheek...seriously.


That lady knew what she was doing.The last day of 6th grade, when we were all going to leave Paul Revere...we had gotten together to give her a present and decided money was best.I think we stuck about 30 dollars in a card for her.

She cried and cried....what a great lady.She couldn't quite beat Nanny...but came mighty close.
