![]() Why do some tracks feel the need to subject bettors to this crap?
Yesterday's 1st race at PID was restricted to Amature jockeys - it was perhaps the single worst ridden race I've ever seen in my life. I would have to say the star of the show was jockey K Rice. * First of all, she failed to make her assigned weight of 135lbs .. and was 7 pounds over - no problem .. 142lbs isn't asking a lot for a 3yo maiden to carry going 8.5 furlongs. * Second of all, she's absolutely lone speed and breaking from post #2 on her 13/1 shot mount. Instead of going to the lead, she opts to strangle the horse back behind sizzling fractions of 25.74 - 53.39 - 1:19.28 .. surprisingly, the shrewd tactics backfired. The 4/5 favorite in the race failed to hit the board after attempting to circle. The 5/2 second choice barely made it out of the gate and was 21 lengths back after that sizzling 25.74 first quarter. He obviously failed to pass a horse and was last at every call. Half of these riders were so out of shape that they appeared to be stricken with rigor mortis on the far turn .. and could barely even manage to hand ride them home. |

![]() Doug, do you know why didn't they run the 8th race at Presque Isle last night?

They said it was for "safety reasons" on the TV... so, I assume it must have been a problem with the track because the weather was great .. no lightening. The track has been crazy this meet. Very early in the meet - maiden claimers would go 21 and change - 44 flat - 1:08 and change for 6fs. It was just insanely fast. In a supposed effort to make the track "less speed favoring" - they have tried to slow it down more and more ... which has only made it way more speed favoring. Now you're starting to see 53 and change halfs in route races. A few trainers are complaining they want the track this way - a few others want it a different way. I'll find out - but I would think it had to do with the track. |

![]() Against my better judgement I bet that Rice horse last night. At no point did she ride in an attempt to do anything other than survive.

![]() They cancelled the 8th race last night "for the safety of the jockeys - because deer were on the racetrack"

![]() That could get really dangerous once deer hunting season begins.

![]() Are even the deer in the Erie region retarded too?

![]() Last I checked, wild deer aren't particularly brazen. I would think an outrider yelling, whistling, clapping his or her hands would have sent them on tail up retreat to where they came from.

![]() To my knowledge, means you have never been paid for that type of service.
That is a scary prospect for jockeys.
