Thanks!!
most vets that I have been around would not consider this unless the horse had extreme value as a potential stud (think AP Indy). Not only is the surgery more complicated but the trait is considered by most to be inherited so gelding them eliminates the potential for them to pass this trait on to their male offspring. Plus as I said before a rig is less fertile anyway so less desirable as a stud prospect.
I don't really understand why your trainer would want to just remove the one that is undescended, makes more sense to get the whole job done.

if you breed a horse with undescended testicles he may pass the trait on to his off spring...by gelding him it ensures that he will not be bred and can't pass the trait on.

sorry if I was unclear.

He didnt told me anythign about the price of gelding and half-gelding...

Actually, what he told me is that it is not necessary to cut both off.

We are not planning (and his race record doesnt allow too) to use him as a stallion. But the vet told me that it is not necessary to cut both testicles, since the problem that reflects on his racing performance will be eliminated simple cutting one of them.

JMO, but they do that to Paso Finos routinely and it is not a good thing. It enables the stallion to behave like a stud and you may find that actually gelding him may help him to focus a bit more.

From all of us at ATRAB... cut him! The more fit the horse gets the tighter the muscles which squeezes the testicle... as far as the other testicle... if he has stud potential keep it... if not cut it! A testicle cannot go up... the testicles desend upon formation.. yours just didn't drop... I wish I could get one cut for $500!! Do it and I'll bet he winks at you!!!
